Job Description
Title: Per Diem Social-Emotional Support Clinician

Position Summary
The Per Diem Social-Emotional Support Clinician plays a key role in supporting the overall
success of the after-school program by addressing the social and emotional needs of children
and their families, while also strengthening the skills and capacity of program staff. This
position provides short-term, goal-directed support, crisis intervention, and referrals to
community resources to ensure children and families have access to the care and services they
need.
Working primarily during afternoons, the Clinician partners closely with staff to promote a
safe, inclusive, and supportive environment. Responsibilities include modeling and coaching
effective strategies for addressing challenging behaviors, providing trauma-informed guidance,
and helping develop internal systems for behavioral health support. The Clinician also
collaborates with families to promote positive engagement and builds connections with
community partners to enhance access to resources.
The position requires a licensed Social Worker (LCSW or LICSW) or Mental Health Counselor
(LMHC), with prior experience working with school-age youth, strongly preferred. The Per
Diem Social Emotional Support Clinician will bring both clinical expertise and a collaborative
strengths-based approach to supporting children, families, and program staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess the social-emotional needs of children and make referrals for services and support to them and their families.
- Conduct assessments of social-emotional needs and identify appropriate interventions.
- Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with organizational policies and confidentiality standards.
- Provide referrals to outside agencies for specialized services when appropriate.
- Responsible for understanding the social emotional development and trauma of DCR involved children and families and providing clinical support and oversight to the program staff, the children, and the families served.
- Support the development of internal processes for program educators, staff and families to access behavioral support, referrals and resources.
- Assist program staff with students who exhibit high-need behaviors, offering guidance, training, and modeling of de-escalation techniques and positive behavior strategies.
- Support staff in the development and competition for individual family plans and tracking progress
- Provide guidance to meet the needs of parents/families
- Help build relationships with key partner agencies to support coordinating resources for families.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in social work, Counseling, or a related mental health field.
- Valid license: LCSW, LICSW, LMHC.
- Minimum of two years post-graduate direct service-related experience with youth.
- Experience working with school-age-children ideally in community-based or after-school settings.
- Familiar with youth mental health and wellness trends, including the ability to recognize behavioral patterns and identify needs for early intervention.
- Experience working with DCF families preferred.
- Proven ability to build rapport, gain trust, and foster positive relationships with youth, families, and staff.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for engaging effectively with participants, parents/guardians, and staff.
- Experience with behavior management using an emphatic and solution-seeking approach.
- Ability to successfully complete a Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) Background Record Check.
- Bilingual/Bicultural a plus.

Work Environment & Schedule
- This is a per diem position, averaging 5–10 hours per month, with scheduling based on program and family needs.
- Hours are primarily during afternoons and early evenings to align with after-school programming.
- The role is in-person and takes place at the Girls Inc and Greater Lowell office and program site, with occasional flexibility depending on program activities.
