Position Summary
Girls in the Game is seeking a part-time Program Coordinator to support the implementation of a school-year violence prevention and leadership program funded by Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority (ICJIA) serving 50 teen girls ages 13–18 on the West Side of Chicago.
The program uses a multi-pronged approach to increase protective factors and decrease risk factors associated with violence among adolescent girls. Programming includes three core components: Sports & Violence Prevention Curriculum Sessions, Alumnae Mentorship Sessions, and Hangouts. Through sports, leadership development, mentorship, career exploration, social connection, and targeted violence prevention education, participants will develop skills and relationships that support their well-being, safety, and long-term success.
The Program Coordinator will be primarily responsible for recruiting and engaging program participants and coaching/directly supporting program sessions. The Coordinator will work closely with the Program Manager to support program logistics, curriculum preparation, evaluation and data collection, coordination with guest coaches and mentors, and connections to additional community resources.
The schedule for this position is 15-20 hours per week and in the office at least 1-2 days a week. This position runs for the school year – September through June. Days and times are somewhat flexible, but applicants must be available for programs some evenings and on alternating weekends.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist in key events and projects around recruiting, selecting, and training 50 teen girls who reside on the South and West Side of Chicago.
- Co-lead and support Sports & Violence Prevention Curriculum Sessions which occur twice monthly during high-risk hours for teen violence.
- Lead introductory, non-competitive sports and physical activity programming, including traditional and non-traditional sports such as basketball, soccer, football, volleyball, lacrosse, and tennis
- Facilitate activities that address violence prevention risk and protective factors, including: mental health and emotional well-being, healthy relationships, domestic violence education, goal setting etc.
- Support Alumnae Mentorship Sessions including career-readiness, mentorship, and opportunities for participants to engage with alumnae and professional women.
- Support and facilitate hangouts that provide opportunities for social connection, relationship building, and positive peer engagement.
- Coordinate with guest coaches and subject-matter experts who support sensitive or specialized topics, including mental health, suicide prevention, domestic violence, and other violence prevention topics.
- Support transportation, field trip, or other program logistics as assigned.
- Create, manage, and track all participant data and information on our Salesforce and Sharepoint databases.
Qualifications
- Some college, preferably with coursework in health, youth or teen development, education or a related field
- At least two years of experience working with teens and leading groups
- Athletic ability is not required, but applicants must be able to learn and demonstrate the basic skills of multiple sports and fitness activities
- Must be able to travel regularly to sites throughout Chicago
- Demonstrated knowledge of computer environments, e.g., Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
- Spanish conversation skills strongly desired but not required
Licensing Required
- Employment is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work
- Verification of degree/credentials
- Successful completion of background check and fingerprint clearance
- Must be available to work evenings and alternating weekends
