The Girls Scouts of Suffolk County council is growing. Guided by an ambitious plan and its dynamic team, it aims to reach more girls while continuing to serve as an innovative force within the national Girl Scouts network. To support this growth, the organization seeks an enthusiastic, resourceful, and efficient Development Assistant to provide a full range of organizational support tasks for the Development Department. This role requires someone willing to learn, be proactive, and demonstrate attention to detail. The Council operates under a collaborative culture and welcomes a Development Assistant willing to work as part of a team environment.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Development Assistant provides the operational and logistical backbone of the Development Department to maintain accuracy in the fundraising database, assist with research on funding opportunities, prepare donor communications, assist with outreach and scheduling, and help to implement donor stewardship and fundraising events.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manage donor database, including the accurate entry of all updates to donors, grants, and pledges while ensuring the protection of sensitive information.
- Provide support for grant research, submissions, tracking, and reporting.
- Prepare and manage all donor acknowledgments, mailings, contact lists, and tailored letters.
- Generate donor reports and mailing lists for appeals, events, and donor communications.
- Assist in the planning and execution of special events and meetings.
- Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team on materials for fundraising campaigns, appeals, and special events.
- Support the Development Department with Administrative duties.
- Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- One to two years of experience in a nonprofit Fundraising Development Department or related field.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Ability to work independently and accurately under the pressure of multiple deadlines, and exceedingly well organized and flexible.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Experience working with donor database software with an ability to learn new software.
- Communicate diplomatically and work effectively with a wide range of people while demonstrating professional integrity and discretion.
- Ability to problem solve and willingness to be proactive.
- Strong organizational skills, multi-tasker, detail-oriented, and able to meet deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail, including following up.
- Excellent Microsoft Office computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Strong proofreading skills.

***First 3 months of introductory period must work in the office M-F. After that period, may work hybrid schedule as department allows.
