Day Camp Counselor for Summer Camp

Locations: Camp Ledgewood in Peninsula, OH and/or The Jane Norton DreamLab in Sheffield Village

Summer Camp Dates (including staff training days): June 3- August 11, 2026

Compensation: $475.00 per week

The Day Camp Counselor collaborates with fellow counselors and the Day Camp Director to design and deliver engaging, high-quality day camp programming that meets the standards of Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), Girl Scouts of North East Ohio (GSNEO), the American Camp Association (ACA). This role works directly with campers, ensuring their safety and well-being while providing a fun, memorable experience rooted in Girl Scout values. As both a mentor and guide, the Day Camp Counselor supports campers in navigating their daily activities, fostering skill development, and forming meaningful connections, all while maintaining the highest standards of safety and positive behavior management.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Assist in the leadership and guidance of a unit under the direction and supervision of the Day Camp Director (DCD)
• Participate in the general planning of the camp program
• Work with a group of campers and help each camper to adjust to and grow with other campers and camp life
• Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of campers served
• Interact appropriately with campers in a variety of situations, appropriately modeling behavior in a positive manner
• Assist the DCD in carrying out necessary safety and health regulations
• Assist in the guidance of individual campers in the participation of group, unit, and all camp activities
• Assist with program activities and other activities in the unit, working closely with DCD
• Assist with all camp program activities and other camp-wide activities as assigned
• Assist in activity teaching as assigned
• Set standards/examples of courtesy, good taste, respect, and proper manners throughout camp
• Report all incidents/accidents to the supervisor immediately
• Responsible for completing and returning all records to the supervisor.
• Adhere to and uphold the safety and program standards of GSUSA, GSNEO, and ACA for both campers and staff
• Perform other duties as assigned to promote the successful implementation of GSNEO’s goals/objectives

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum age 18
• Interest, knowledge, and skills in a variety of camp program fields
• Youth-oriented program background a plus
• Demonstrated ability to successfully handle conflict resolution at all levels with a variety of people, including external customers
• Ability to pay close attention to detail and maintain confidentiality
• Ability to communicate the written and spoken word with tact, diplomacy, and/or authority when necessary
• Well disciplined, able to meet deadlines and is a self-starter
• Ability to work well as part of a team
• Knowledge of the Girl Scout program preferred
• Ability to meet schedule requirements
• Valid driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle in working condition. Daily access to dependable transportation
