What are the responsibilities and job description for the CIT Leader position at Girl Scouts of Maine?

The CIT leader assists in the day-to-day leadership skill building for our older girls in the Counselor–In–Training (CIT) program. This role involves residing within the unit and actively contributing to the overall health and safety of all campers. Responsibilities include devising unit-specific programming tailored to the CITs, collaborating with them to curate and deliver engaging activities for other campers and empowering their autonomy and decision-making within a supportive framework. Guiding both the unit and individual campers to successfully participate in various camp activities while ensuring individual camper needs are met is paramount.

This position begins in mid-June and ends in mid-August, which includes one week of staff training before campers arrive.

What else should I know about the position?

Additional certification week (if needed) may include CPR, wilderness first aid, lifeguarding, canoeing, challenge course, hatchet throwing, archery, etc.

Unit Staff live in tent units with up to 3 other staff and up to 24 campers.

Summer Camp Programs for girls ages 7-17

Between 80 -120 campers attend each overnight session at Camp Pondicherry.

We offer 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4-week programs for our campers.

The Pondicherry summer team consists of 35- 40 staff members.

Why Camp Pondicherry?

Camp Pondicherry is a spectacular outdoor setting, nestled on over 600 acres in the foothills of the White Mountains. Pondi has a private waterfront on Adams Pond and miles of unspoiled woodlands, fields, hills, and trails. There are wonderful vistas of lakes and mountains from our Chalet and from Blueberry Hill. Requirements:

· Must be 21 years of age or older (per state requirements).

· Be an enthusiastic, caring adult who is passionate about working with campers.

· Previous leadership experience working with adults and youth preferred.

· Belief in the mission and core principles of Girl Scouting

· Passion and excitement for the outdoors.

· Willingness to obtain First Aid/CPR certification or be currently certified.

· Ability to prioritize the needs of campers and to communicate with and provide direction to campers and staff of varying age and skill levels.

· Ability to provide constant supervision of campers and help campers navigate emotional well-being during their time at overnight camp.

· Ability to work effectively within a team.

· Ability to share living quarters with other staff (may include directly on-ground, primitive camping, rustic cabins, platform tents, or lodges).

· Ability to establish and maintain boundaries with campers and fellow staff.

· Demonstrated maturity, sound judgment, integrity.

· Ability to go without electronic devices for several hours or days at a time while on duty (excluding medically necessary devices).

Physical requirements:

Ability and willingness to perform tasks that exert physical effort, which may involve bending, lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 40 pounds). Regular standing and prolonged periods of walking on rough and uneven terrain at camp is required as is working in the heat, sun exposure, and other weather conditions.
