Position Summary

The Senior Manager, Marketing, Communications & Events position reports to the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications (MarComm). They are responsible for the creative development and implementation of all GSGLA marketing, communications, and signature events efforts. In collaboration with the MarComm team, this function spans internal and external communications; marketing communications; brand positioning; media relations; public relations; crisis and reputation management; and content management for internal and external digital properties and social media channels. They are responsible for developing consistent and cohesive messaging across departments.

Responsibilities include: 1) Position the organization as the preeminent organization for girls and young women grades K-12, 2) Utilize expertise and experience to manage, oversee, and align consistent, compelling GSGLA messaging both internally and externally; and maintain alignment with the GSUSA brand, 3) Lead the broader community of GSGLA as a visionary communications expert – provide all resources necessary to ensure that the MarComm team, GSGLA staff, and members (when applicable) speak with one voice. Manage the Manager, Marketing & Communications and their team as well as vendors necessary to execute signature events, design/photo/video, and copywriting, and ensure the highest standards of job performance and behavior standards as aligned with the broader goals of the MarComm Department, and the GSGLA community.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Position the organization as the preeminent organization for girls and young women grades K-12. Strategies include:
    • Develop compelling brand and data-driven stories and consumer campaigns that resonate with target audiences.
    • Drive brand development and storytelling across platforms.
    • Build a broad understanding of the Girl Scouts program, showcasing its relevance and appeal.
    • Train the executive leadership, senior management, staff, and members as needed so that they too can represent the Girl Scouts Movement.
    • Understand and interpret how Girl Scouts benefits girls and address this knowledge in brand and communications strategies.
    • Identify and pursue opportunities for collaboration with other organizations, as related to brand and communications strategies.
  2. Utilize expertise and experience to manage, oversee, and align consistent, compelling GSGLA messaging both internally and externally; and maintain alignment with the GSUSA brand.
    • Develop, manage, and execute an annual strategic communications plan for GSGLA to span across all communications media (traditional, broadcast, digital) and reach appropriate target audiences, based upon specific strategic and performance goals. Evaluate the success of various strategies and provide and implement recommendations for improvement.
    • Proactively provide innovation across all communication vehicles that GSGLA uses and provide competitive insight into GSGLA communications and branding strategies.
    • Develop and maintain council messaging for all divisions of the organization, in particular implementing key national campaigns and efforts into local campaigns, communication, and culture.
  3. Lead the broader community of GSGLA as a visionary communications expert – provide all resources necessary to ensure that the MarComm team, GSGLA staff, and members (when applicable) speak with one voice. 
    • Write interesting and effective content for use across all communication channels. Individually responsible for press releases, media kits, and related collaterals.
    • Oversee the audit and analyzation of GSGLA’s communication efforts, ensuring use of the brand voice.
    • Oversee the development of and messaging that create a cohesive brand and message for print and all offline communication vehicles.
    • Oversee the development and maintenance of all online communication vehicles, including but not limited to:
      • GSGLA website and related microsites
      • Social media channels
      • Email publications and communication
      • SMS 
  4. Manage the Manager, Marketing & Communications and Marketing Associate and other MarComm team members (Manager, Marketing & Design, Sr. Administrative Assistant) as well as vendors and agencies necessary to execute GSGLA’s signature in-person and virtual events, design/photo/video, and copywriting, manage lead-gen ad campaigns, and ensure the highest standards of job performance and behavior standards as aligned with the broader goals of the MarComm Department, and the GSGLA community. 
  5. Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be flexible, adaptable, and willing to thrive in an ever-changing/fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to spend time sitting, utilizing the computer, and standing and walking throughout the facilities.
  • Ability to travel via personal vehicle or public transportation to various facilities throughout the region.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds periodically.
  • Flexibility to attend evening and/or weekend meetings and/or events.
  • Able to perform this job safely, without endangering the health or safety of themselves or others.

Recommended Education, Training and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations or related field.
  • 7-10 years of demonstrated progressive experience in public relations, communications, and/or marketing.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, etc.), Smartsheet/project management software.
  • Knowledge of Salesforce, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Google Analytics (or similar applications), SMS applications, lead-gen and other ad campaigns.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite including AEM.
  • Excellent business acumen and broad experience/understanding of all facets of marketing and communication.
  • Proven ability to successfully handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to lead others in a goal and action-oriented manner.
  • Excellent organization and project management skills.
  • Outstanding editing, proofreading, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem solving skills, and communications skills (both written and oral).
  • Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to relationship-building for the organization.
  • Results-oriented and a passion for creativity.
  • Dedication to customer service in all interaction, understanding, and experience in a volunteer environment.
  • Effective decision making with a high level of personal integrity and professionalism.
  • Non-profit experience; experience in Girl Scout organization a plus.
  • Valid California driver’s license, vehicle in working condition, proof of insurance and the ability to fulfill timely and extensive travel requirements across a large geographical area.

GSGLA Employee Requirements

  • Comply with state-mandated reporter training.
  • Attend GSGLA signature events and/or other activities as assigned.
  • Must successfully complete a Live Scan and background check.
