Are you an experienced cook/chef who enjoys the outdoors and knows how camp meals can make or break a young camper's sleep away camp experience? The Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts are looking for a head cook to manage and supervise food planning, purchasing, and preparation from June 28 through August 15. Health and safety standards must be maintained in the dining hall according to the Girl Scout Safety Activity Checkpoint standards, the American Camp Association (ACA), state and local regulations. The head cook oversees an assistant cook and kitchen assistant.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook meals according to menu specifications, ensuring high standards of food quality and safety. Meals served Sunday dinner through Friday lunch and simultaneously prepare pack-out meals for individual units.
- Handle food items with care, adhering to proper food handling and sanitation practices.
- Plan menus and accommodate dietary restrictions as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and dining areas.
- Supervise assistant cook and kitchen assistant.
- Collaborate with staff to provide excellent customer service and enhance the dining experience.
- Stay updated on CPR and First Aid protocols to ensure safety in the camp environment.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- HS Diploma or equivalent required (advanced education or college preferred).
- ServSafe Manager certification required.
- Experience with meal planning, ordering food, and familiarity with a variety of dietary needs such as allergies, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free menus.
- Supervision experience preferred.
- Ability to prepare and serve all meals Sunday dinner through Friday lunch and occasional weekends and simultaneously have pack-out meals ready.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to make independent decisions, effective interaction with staff and volunteers, and work well with children.
- Must subscribe to the tenets of the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
