Music Teacher Middle Grades

Girard College is a full-scholarship boarding school that fosters intellectual curiosity, social development and emotional growth in academically focused students from underserved communities. We ensure every student the opportunity and the means to achieve excellence and preparation for advanced education through purposeful academic and residential programs.

Girard College seeks a certified Music Teacher for our middle school students beginning as soon as possible. Our teachers implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and instruction aligned to PA State Standards, work collaboratively with teachers in other disciplines as well as residential staff and participate fully in the school’s academic and residential community. The position reports directly to the Principal of the Elementary/Middle School.

Academic Achievement and Character Development:

• Create a positive, achievement-oriented and structured learning environment

• Educate students in music that includes diverse genres and styles from various periods and cultures
• Provide instruction on proper vocal technique and organize a chorus.
• Provide instruction to students using multiple musical instruments.
• Organize and drive school performances for Middle School students.
• Motivate students to achieve high academic and behavioral standards
• Investment in students and families in order to achieve our standard for academic success, and to meet our Core Values
• Utilize data to drive instruction and learning intervention

• Design and implement unit and lesson plans in collaboration with grade/subject teams

• Collaborate with building leaders, instructional coaches, teacher leaders and colleagues to continuously improve instructional, culture-building and leadership skills
• Participate enthusiastically in all professional development, instructional planning, teacher/residential collaborative team meetings, community meetings and MTSS meetings
• Function as a school-wide partner in helping to raise student achievement and character for all students in the school. Reinforcing school-wide expectations and volunteering to take on additional activities as needed to improve school academics and culture.

• Teaching experience highly preferred with a proven record of high academic and social achievement
• Minimum requirement of a bachelor’s degree in education, in the specific core content job area
• Proficient pianist and preferred comfort instructing in Kodaly, Dalcroze and Orff methodologies and also be multi-instrumentalists
• Working knowledge of a variety of music recording, performing software and video recording software is a plus.
• Must possess a minimum of a State of Pennsylvania Level I Instructional Certificate or above in the content area in which they are teaching from the PA Department of Education or must obtain Instructional Intern Certificate in the content area in which they teach within one year from date of hire.  Music Education PreK-12
• IMPORTANT SALARY INFORMATION: the minimum starting salary for new teachers shall be determined by their completion of years of teaching / counseling experience and degree level. In accordance with the bargaining agreement.
