Girard College is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual for the position of Head Middle School Boys’ and Girls’ Track Coach. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of track and field fundamentals, strong organizational skills, and the ability to create a positive, inclusive, and development-focused team culture aligned with the mission of Girard College.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage all aspects of the middle school boys’ and girls’ track and field program
- Teach age-appropriate fundamentals across sprinting, distance running, relays, and field events
- Develop safe, developmentally appropriate in-season training plans focused on skill progression and injury prevention
- Foster academic achievement, character development, sportsmanship, and teamwork among student-athletes
- Organize and oversee team practices and all scheduled meets (home and away)
- Coordinate event assignments and lineups for boys’ and girls’ teams
- Supervise, train, and evaluate assistant coaches (if applicable)
- Maintain a positive, inclusive, and safe environment for all participants
- Ensure compliance with all school policies and league regulations
- Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents/guardians, and school stakeholders
- Manage team equipment, uniforms, and inventory
- Submit and manage program needs and meet logistics in coordination with the Athletic Director
- Support athlete health and safety by following care plans and maintaining First Aid/CPR/AED certifications
- Coordinate team transportation and supervision during meets
- Attend Athletic Department meetings as scheduled by the Athletic Director
- Community Engagement & Program Support:
- Serve as a positive representative and ambassador of Girard College and its athletic programs
- Support participation and growth of the middle school track program
- Build relationships with middle school staff and youth track or running organizations as appropriate
Required Skills:
- Knowledge of track and field events, rules, and age-appropriate training methods
- Ability to motivate, teach, and mentor middle school student-athletes
- Clear, supportive communication with players, parents/guardians, and staff
- Demonstrated leadership, organization, and professionalism
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Understanding of how to build a safe, inclusive, and development-focused middle school program
Time Commitment:
In-Season:
- Practices: Weekdays, 1-2 hours/day
- Mandatory attendance at all scheduled meets
- Season Length: Approximately 6-8 weeks
- Occasional weekend availability may be required
Off-Season:
- Program planning and coordination with the Athletic Director as needed
Qualifications:
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum of three (3) years of coaching experience at the youth, middle school, or high school level (track and field preferred)
- Must have completed PIAA coaching education requirements at time of hire
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Commitment to working collaboratively with student-athletes, administration, faculty, and staff
- Must pass all required background checks and hold a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record

- FBI Fingerprint Clearance
- Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance
- Pennsylvania Criminal Background Check
- Valid Driver’s License (safe driving record)
- First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
