The purpose of the role of a Barista is to personally engage with our Guests in a Warm and Authentic manner at all times. The job you perform goes beyond handcrafting a perfectly made beverage; it’s about creating an experience with every Guest that generates a “Good Will Ambassador” for Ginger and Baker. This person will need to uphold the Ginger and Baker customer service experience with all guest interactions.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Greet and serve guests with a smile.
  • Maintain the knowledge and skill set to operate the espresso machine, coffee brewer, grinder, oven, dishwasher and any other equipment correctly and efficiently.    
  • Provide attentive and friendly service to guests and coworkers.
  • Take orders from guests, bartenders, servers, etc.
  • Attend to guests anywhere in the building with a specific focus on serving, bussing, and resetting coffee bar top, coffee shop tables in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to recipes to prepare all beverages and other items as specified.
  • Promptly serve pastries, pie, beverages, and Café menu items to all areas of the building, including but not limited to The Cache, Teaching Kitchen, and Events.
  • Operate register. Balance and reconcile cash till, tips, and POS sales.
  • Follow all opening and closing duties as specified in Coffee Shop operations binder.
  • Slice/prepare/package pies as they arrive from the bakery.
  • Clean, set up, and maintain all prep and service areas indoors and out.

SCHEDULE:

This job requires a flexible schedule that includes days, evenings, weekends and holidays.

 

EQUIPMENT USED:

POS, coffee brewer, tea brewer, espresso machine, oven, commercial restaurant equipment.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES TO SAFETY:

  • Protect the safety of self, Team Members and Ginger and Baker Guests at all times.
  • Promptly report any incidents and/or potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor and/or appropriate department(s).
  • Report/document safety-related accidents and incidents at once to immediate supervisor and appropriate department(s), following documented procedures.
  • Follow all company and department safety policies and procedures as required.
  • Operate equipment in a safe manner that will not lead to injury of yourself or others.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and extreme heat.  The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

 

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • 1-year customer service as a Barista

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtracts, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.  Able to accurately read and make measurements.
