Area Planner Job Description

The Load Planner/Area Planner is responsible for booking freight, managing load planning in accordance with drivers' hours of service (HOS) regulations, and ensuring high-quality service for our dedicated customers. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication, and the ability to adapt to the fast-paced demands of just-in-time freight planning. 

Area Planner Responsibilities

●        Secure and book loads from existing customers, maintain load availability in key markets, and identify opportunities for new business.

●        Efficiently plan loads and schedules to maximize driver productivity while adhering to HOS regulations, ensuring loads are delivered safely and on time. 

●        Develop strong relationships with dedicated customers, understand their specific needs, and ensure consistent, reliable service.

●        Coordinate closely with drivers to communicate schedules, update route plans, and adjust plans as needed.

●        Work with the Operations Manager, Driver Retention Specialist, and Driver Manager Supervisor to identify and solve issues related to load efficiency, equipment availability, and route optimization. 

●        Maintain up-to-date knowledge of HOS regulations and ensure that all load plans meet compliance standards.

Area Planner Qualifications

●        Minimum 2-3 years in load planning within the trucking industry.

●        Understanding of DOT hours of service rules and how to plan around them effectively.

●        Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with key customers

●        Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with drivers, customers, and the operations team.

●        Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-paced environment with accuracy.

●        Proficiency with McLeod software and Microsoft Office Suite.
