Custodial Supervisor (Classified Managment)

BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent, Business Services, this position assists with planning, organizing, coordinating, supervising, training and evaluating District custodial services; ensuring the proper care and cleaning of District facilities; provides training and supervision of afternoon and night shift custodial services employees and inspects facilities.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES (Responsibilities will include but are not be limited to): 

The Supervisor is responsible for the following duties:

 

  • Assists with planning, organizing, coordinating, supervising, training and evaluating the day-to-day operations of custodial services at all District facilities as assigned.
  • Oversees and supervises afternoon and night shift custodial services employees.
  • Inspects facilities to ensure proper care and cleaning and compliance with guidelines, policies and laws.
  • Participates in the selection of personnel, provides training to custodial employees, assigns and reviews work, recommends and participates in disciplinary action.
  • Provides technical expertise and input to site administration for the supervision and evaluation of custodial personnel.
  • Assists in development and preparation of work schedules; reviews custodial reports to determine materials, labor and time requirements; prioritizes and coordinates duties and assignments of custodial staff; assures effective work flow and operations of custodial staff.
  • Assists in preparation of recommendations related to staffing levels, purchasing of equipment and supplies.
  • Communicates with District and site administrators, personnel, vendors, and others regarding cleaning procedures and products, supplies, materials, and application of cleaning products and chemicals.
  • Assists in the review and revision of work methods and procedures to assure efficiency, cost-effectiveness and compliance with established regulations, policies and standards of quality.
  • Assists with assigning substitute custodial personnel and emergency assistance to site administrators.
  • Assists in designing and implementing training programs for custodial staff; assists with the development and updating of custodial handbooks, rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Enforces health and Safety measures and precautions.
  • Supervises and evaluates assigned personnel.
  • Utilizes computers and software programs in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Maintains or seeks current information on resources relevant to the position.
  • Performs related duties as assigned

  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports
  • Successfully manage a wide variety of tasks while dealing with frequent interruptions
  • Perform duties in an effective, timely manner, using efficient, organized techniques
  • Perform a wide range of professional, administrative, advocacy and liaison duties involved in building maintenance (i.e. custodial)
  • Work confidentially with discretion
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy
  • Read, proofread, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals including policies and procedures and equipment manuals in English
  • Write routine draft instructions, reports and correspondence to stakeholders in professional written English
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Record-keeping techniques
  • Operate computers and peripheral equipment properly and efficiently
  • Meet schedules and timelines
  • Maintain various records related to work performed
  • Work independently with little direction
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

 

  • Office environment
  • School environment
  • Construction environment and possible hazardous conditions (i.e. noise, fumes, weather, moving equipment and machinery, etc.)
  • Regular exposure to chemicals, fumes, blood-borne pathogens, body fluids, dust and odors.
  • Occasional exposure to loud noises from equipment
  • Possible exposure to electrical shock from equipment
  • Driving a vehicle to conduct business

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS (consideration will be given to reasonable accommodation): 

 

  • Sit for sustained periods of time
  • Climb slopes, stairs, steps and ladders
  • Exhibit full range of motion for shoulder external rotation and internal rotation, shoulder abduction and adduction, elbow flexion and extension, shoulder extension and flexion, back lateral flexion, hip flexion and extension and knee flexion;
  • Ability to work in a safe and effective manner in the following: at various elevated heights on ladders, roofs, and in restricted spaces
  • Conduct frequent repetitive arm, hand and body motion
  • Sufficient hearing to conduct in-person and telephone conversations
  • Sufficient physical mobility to move about school sites and drive a car
  • Sufficient vision to read printed material
  • Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversational distance, on the telephone, and in addressing groups
  • Physical, mental, and emotional stamina to endure long hours under stressful conditions
  • Standing and sitting for long periods of time
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard
  • During crisis situations, may require moderate to significant physical work and lengthy periods of standing
  • Physical ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and up to 100 pounds occasionally with assistance
  • Ability to bend, twist, kneel and stoop
  • Ability to reach in all directions

 

OTHER CHARACTERISTICS: 

 

  • Willing to work irregular hours/days including evenings, weekends and holidays, and to be on-call for emergencies
  • Willing to travel locally
  • Willing to work at any school location and be assigned to additional duties as needed

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Four years of recent custodial work experience
  • Valid California Driver’s License
  • Must reside within 45-minutes of the GUSD Administration Office

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • College-level course work and/or equivalent level of course work in custodial supervision / management
  • Previous Supervisory Experience
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish

Payroll Range:  Supervisory Salary Schedule Range – Dc

Yearly Salary: $68,426 – $87,459 (6-step salary schedule, salary placement dependent upon related experience)

Yearly Stipends: $1,000 for Masters / $1,500 Doctorate degrees
