Employment Period: August 6, 2025 to May 29, 2026. Hourly Rate: Per Classified Salary Schedule.
Qualifications/Job Description:
Gilpin County School District RE-1 seeks a Preschool Paraprofessional for the classroom ages 3 through school-age for Gilpin County Elementary School for the 2025/2026 school year.
The Paraprofessional provides support in the educational services for students. Fosters a relationship with students based upon warmth, concern, mutual respect, and shared excitement in learning. Assists in the overall preschool programming for students under the direction of the Preschool Lead Teacher.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Experience with the Preschool educational philosophy and practice.
- Assist the classroom teacher with instructional activities and lesson preparation.
- Work one-on-one or in small groups with students to reinforce learning objectives.
- Support students with special needs, including behavioral, emotional, or physical support.
- Help manage classroom behavior and maintain a safe, respectful learning environment.
- Supervise students during non-instructional times such as recess, lunch, or transitions.
- Prepare and organize teaching materials and classroom supplies.
- Monitor student progress and report observations to the teacher.
- Participate in professional development and training as required.
- Monitoring of students during structured and unstructured times.
- Provide related service activities such as motor skill development and language activities.
- Provide medical procedures as indicated on health care plans.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT
Strong oral and written communication and customer service skills. High level of professionalism. Ability to treat others with respect, work with integrity and ethics, and demonstrate teamwork skills. Must have basic writing, math, and computer skills. Must possess bilingual skills and be able to provide translation support, both verbal and written, at a proficient level. Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job and diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations. Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment such as telephones, computer, copier, fax machine, e-mail, etc. Ability to promote and follow Board of Education Policies and department procedures; communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and education backgrounds; and recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Meet requirements for preschool classroom assistant as set forth by the Colorado Department of Human Services and The Colorado Department of Early Childhood (CDEC).
- Preferred: Bachelor's or Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Special Education, Family and Child Development or Child Psychology from an accredited college or university.
- Preferred: Successful experience working with students in a preschool classroom setting.
SALARY AND BENEFIT INFORMATION:
Paraprofessional salary based on the Classified Salary Schedule, DOE range $20.02 to $25.27 an hour.
Outside experience is credited up to 5 years on the salary schedule. District-paid employee health, dental, and vision ($9,488), life, accidental death and dismemberment, and long-term disability insurance. District-paid contribution 21.4% of annual salary to the Colorado Public Employees Retirement Account (PERA). Paid time off/Annual Leave 9 days a school year, which may be accrued to a total of 60 days.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk or hear and use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
MENTAL FUNCTIONS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate and use interpersonal skills. Frequently required to coordinate. Occasionally required to compare, analyze, copy, instruct, compute, and compile.
