Position Summary:
The General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and strategic direction of Gilmer’s contract packaging and warehouse operation located in Cochran GA. This role oversees end-to-end site operations, including production (co-pack), shipping and receiving, inventory management, and customer program execution.
The General Manager drives operational excellence, financial performance, and customer satisfaction by aligning people, processes, and technology. This leader owns site-level P&L, ensures compliance with safety and quality standards, and partners cross-functionally to deliver consistent, high-quality service while supporting business growth.
Essential Functions:
Operational Leadership
- Lead all day-to-day operations including contract packaging (production), warehouse, shipping, receiving, and inventory control in a large scale food grade facility.
- Ensure efficient utilization of labor, equipment, and materials to meet throughput and service targets.
- Oversee production, scheduling, and warehouse flow to meet customer demand and on-time delivery expectations.
- Partner with maintenance and engineering to ensure equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
Customer & Business Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for key customer relationships, ensuring service expectations and contractual requirements are met or exceeded.
- Support business development efforts by participating in customer onboarding, solution design, and operational planning for new programs.
- Drive customer retention and growth through consistent execution and continuous improvement.
Financial Performance (P&L Ownership)
- Own and manage site-level financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and margin improvement.
- Monitor and analyze KPIs such as labor efficiency, OEE, on-time delivery, and cost per unit.
- Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives while maintaining service and quality standards.
Inventory & Warehouse Management
- Oversee all inventory control processes including receiving, storage, cycle counting, and accuracy.
- Ensure proper material flow and system integrity within WMS/ERP systems.
- Minimize inventory discrepancies, damage, and obsolescence.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of supervisors, managers, and hourly associates.
- Establish clear expectations, provide performance feedback, and drive accountability at all levels.
- Build a high-performance culture focused on safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations (OSHA), food safety standards (GMP, HACCP, SQF), and customer-specific requirements.
- Promote a strong safety culture through training, audits, and proactive risk management.
- Partner with quality teams to ensure adherence to all regulatory and customer standards.
Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
- Lead Lean, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and improve service levels.
- Utilize data and performance metrics to identify gaps and drive corrective actions.
- Standardize processes and implement best practices across operations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Sales, Finance, Quality, Supply Chain, and other departments to align operational execution with business objectives.
- Work closely with customers, suppliers, and third-party partners to ensure seamless program execution.
Requirements:
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills with the ability to manage complex operations.
- Demonstrated ability to drive operational performance, meet KPIs, and deliver business results.
- Financial acumen with experience managing budgets, forecasts, and profitability.
- Working knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS), ERP systems, and inventory control processes.
- Deep understanding of safety, quality, and regulatory standards within a food-grade or consumer packaged goods environment.
- Experience with AIB (American Institute of Baking) standards, audits, and compliance requirements.
- Ability to lead through change, influence cross-functional teams, and operate in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Work Environment:
- Office-based with frequent visits to the warehouse and operational areas.
- This job may require working extended hours, Saturday, Sunday and Holidays, and other shifts as needed to meet customer requirements.
- This job requires working in a non-temperature-controlled warehouse (indoor temperature fluctuates through each season).
- Exposure to temperature changes, noise, forklifts, heavy equipment, etc.
- Use of PPE (personal protective equipment) as required.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in operations, supply chain, or similar field preferred.
- At least five years of experience in leadership positions in supply chain, logistics, warehouse, or manufacturing.
- Experience in food-grade, beverage, or consumer packaged goods (CPG) environments strongly preferred.
- Proven experience managing production, warehouse operations, and inventory control.
