Sports Information Director (SID)
Gilman School, a PK–12 independent boys’ school in Baltimore, seeks a creative, organized, and energetic Sports Information Director (SID) to lead Athletics Communications and Digital Media. This role supports Gilman’s highly competitive athletic program, including teams competing in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA). The SID will work closely with the Athletics Department and the Office of Marketing & Communications.
The ideal candidate is a creative, organized storyteller who enjoys working with coaches and colleagues, brings energy to school life, and is excited to mentor students.
Key Responsibilities
Athletics Communications & Social Media
- Manage and grow the Gilman athletics social media presence on Instagram
- Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy, including gameday coverage, score updates, highlights, and postgame recaps
- Create and post gameday graphics, daily/weekly schedules, and short-form video content
- Edit sports photography and videography
- Monitor analytics and performance
Game Coverage & Storytelling
- Provide live coverage for varsity home games and key away/playoff contests, including in-game updates and highlights
- Conduct postgame interviews with coaches and student-athletes
- Write engaging captions, game recaps, and longer-form feature stories (championships, major student/alumni achievements, coach announcements)
Media Day & Content Production
- Plan and manage Athletics Media Days for all varsity teams, including scheduling, creative direction, and logistics
- Coordinate with coaches, photographers, and videographers to ensure high-quality, brand-aligned content
Student Leadership & Program Management
- Recruit, mentor, and manage student photographers, videographers, and interns
- Assign student coverage for games and events to build a comprehensive athletics photo/video library
- Partner with the Gilman Media Club to develop student-generated content
- Train students on tools such as Canva and Box Out to ensure consistent visual branding
Game Operations & Event Support
- Assist with public address (PA) responsibilities for select sports (football, volleyball, basketball, baseball) and help train student announcers
- Support scoreboard, shot clock, and video board operations, including creating and programming content for game days
Media Relations & Coordination
- Coordinate press credentials for visiting teams and photographers
- Secure credentials and permissions for Gilman coverage at away games
- Ensure proper archiving and sharing of photography and content with the Marketing & Communications Office
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Experience in sports information, athletics communications, or digital media preferred
- Demonstrated experience managing social media accounts for an organization or team
- Strong photography, videography, and content creation skills
- Proficiency with Canva; familiarity with Box Out preferred
- Eagerness to learn new skills and adapt in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent writing and storytelling ability
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends during athletic seasons
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
We are committed to transparency and supporting our employees' well-being. For this role, we offer a competitive pay range of $ 65,000 to $75,000, based on experience and qualifications.
