ABOUT THE ROLE

Our engineering organization is comprised of three primary departments: Current Product Engineering (CPE), New Product Engineering (NPE) and, Product Validation.

The Current Product Engineering (CPE) Department has two main missions:

  • To provide design enhancement and optimization for our current product platforms that spans across virtually all stages of the vehicle lifecycle
  • To deliver robust, fleet-specific designs required for each of our customers’ operational needs

As an Electrical Engineer II, you will be responsible for reviewing and interpreting fleet-specific requirements, generating concept design, releasing engineering design and manufacturing of parts and sub-systems for each fleet of vehicles. This includes design releases, Bill of Materials (BOM) completion containing manufacturing parts, sub-system parts, harnesses, schematics, and installation drawings and applying it to the fleet orders.  You will have ownership of commodities and manage systems of major suppliers from the ITS and Surveillance vendors. You will work closely with the Production Crew and Production Support Team (PST) for ongoing production support during installation and troubleshooting of associated systems.

You will work closely with the Supervisor for the ITS & Surveillance team to dynamically prioritize work orders per schedule and requirement changes. You will also be working closely with cross-functional and inter-departmental personnel to help deliver customer requirements successfully.

Assignments are broad in scope and highly complex that require outstanding creativity, superior initiative, good judgement, and design skill.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent required
  • Minimum 4 years of engineering experience
  • Discusses and communicates customer, product and other functional requirements related to Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) & Surveillance, bus interface, broadcasting and transceiver needs, CAN interface, Self-Diagnostics and Fault Detection with internal and external customers
  • Work with infotainment device and systems suppliers to configure and optimize vehicle functions such as: Traffic intervention, 2-way radio and data communication, safety, internal and external vehicle displays, information gateway and telematics
  • Verify infotainment systems on vehicle or in laboratory. Modify wiring, device interface, RFI, EMI protection and communications for the infotainment system to ensure compatibility with other vehicle devices and user interface systems
  • Understanding of communications systems protocols, power requirements, shielding, ground and circuit protection requirements as well as user interface requirements
  • Design experience with low-voltage harness and schematics using CAD software
  • Familiarity with Low Voltage (LV) components such as circuit breakers, fuses, relays, connectors and wiring, etc.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Hands-on experience with RFI/EMC/EMI/ESD testing is a plus
  • Experience with stationary or mobile broadcast systems is a plus
  • Familiarity with:
    • CAN-Bus, LIN, and Ethernet communication protocol is a plus
    • J1939/CAN tools such as CANalyzer, P-CAN, Kvaser, CANoe, CANApe, etc. is a plus

ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk; occasionally kneel or squat
  • Limited domestic travel
  • Typical start time 6:00AM (Negotiable)

Salary Range: $83,157 - $103,947
