What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Technician position at Gilbertson Veterinary Clinic?
Gilbertson Veterinary Services is a growing small-animal practice in northeastern North Dakota looking for a full-time Veterinary Technician to join our team.
We are a modern rural clinic focused on quality medicine, strong client relationships, and creating a supportive work environment where team members are trusted, valued, and encouraged to grow.
What the job looks like:
- Assisting with patient care during exams and treatments
- Surgery, dentistry, and anesthesia support
- Preparing and cleaning exam, treatment, and surgical areas
- Drawing up vaccines and medications, maintaining treatment flow, and helping appointments run efficiently
- Communicating with clients and answering routine questions
- Restocking supplies, monitoring inventory, assisting with prescriptions, and helping maintain pharmacy organization
- Preparing outside laboratory submissions
- Taking radiographs and running in-house laboratory tests
- Maintaining accurate medical records within IDEXX Neo, updating vaccine histories and reminders, and documenting treatments and observations carefully
- Working closely with a small team to help the clinic run smoothly day-to-day
Licensed Veterinary Technicians may also:
- Draw blood and place IV catheters
- Administer medications and vaccines as directed
- Perform cystocenteses and local anesthetic line blocks as directed by the veterinarian
- Assist with dental cleanings and surgical procedures
- Monitor anesthesia with DVM supervision
What we’re looking for:
- Kindness toward pets and people
- Reliability and attention to detail
- Clear communication and teamwork
- Comfort working in a small, collaborative clinic environment
- Ability to adapt and help wherever needed in a growing rural practice
- ND veterinary technician license (or eligibility for licensure) preferred
What we offer:
- Competitive pay ($22–$24/hour depending on experience)
- Steady 4-day work week (Monday–Thursday)
- No evenings or weekends
- Paid holidays
- One week off at Christmas
- 10 days PTO annually
- Opportunity to help shape and grow a newer practice serving a rural community
- A supportive environment where quality medicine and team culture matter
This position may be an especially good fit for someone who values meaningful work, close client relationships, a slower pace outside the clinic, and the opportunity to practice high-quality medicine in a small community. We recognize the value of family and personal life.
