JOB TITLE- High School Assistant Principal
CLASSIFICATION- Administrator
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR- Gilbert High School Principal
JOB SUMMARY
Collaborates with the principal to provide leadership and managerial oversight of instructional programs and school operations and to ensure a school climate that fosters the educational development of all students.
Responsibilities & Tasks
Assist the high school principal in the overall administration of the school
Serve as building administrator in the absence of high school principal
Make recommendations to the building principal for changes in policies, personnel practices, and other such matters that may result in more efficient school administration.
Serve as a member of the district administrative team.
Assist in the recruitment and hiring process of staff
Assist in the coordination and supervision of special programs- IEPs, 504 Plans, MTSS Programs
Provide instructional leadership to effectively meet the needs of high school students.
Relate successfully and build strong relationships with students, faculty, peers, and families.
Provide ongoing coaching for improvement through actionable feedback.
Supervise and evaluate teachers and departments as assigned by high school principal.
Knowledge and skill in effective curriculum development, assessment, professional learning, school improvement, and student achievement strategies
Knowledge and skill in the area of student support programming with an emphasis on mental health supports.
Supervise the reporting and monitoring of student attendance- Collaborate with students and their family to implement appropriate interventions as needed.
Assist high school principal with the enforcement of student discipline policies
Assist in providing supervision in building, hallways and commons, grounds, parking lot, and cafeteria.
Assist the principal and athletic/activities director with supervision of evening and weekend extracurricular activities.
Effective oral and written communication skills. Is organized and able to meet deadlines in a timely manner.
Knowledge and skill in the use of technology
Education- Qualifications-Experience
Holds or is eligible for 9-12 Iowa Principal Endorsement
Evaluator certification required
Administrative experience or related experience is highly desired
Experience working with students with special needs and Section 504 plans is highly desired.
A minimum of five years of successful teaching experience, three years of which must have been at the high school level.
Supervision of Others
1. Educational support staff assigned to the building.
2. Assist with certified staff as assigned.
Working Conditions
1. Frequent evening and/or weekend hours required.
2. Supervision of outdoor events during inclement weather is occasionally required.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
1. 210-day contract
2. Per Board Policies and administrative guidelines.
3. Performance is evaluated annually by the high school principal and superintendent
4. Family Insurance included- medical and dental
5. Salary based on experience
