Schedule: Full time, with some weekends included. Hours vary throughout the year.

Gilbert Orchards is a 5th generation grower and packer of fresh fruit based in Yakima, Washington. We are currently looking for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Compac Spectrim System Operator at our packing facility in Wiley City/Yakima, WA. The System Operator is responsible for achieving accurate sorting and grading of apples using advanced technology & software. The qualified applicants will have strong math & computer skills, as well as superb interpersonal skills. English/Spanish bilingual strongly preferred. This is a full-time, year-round position and will be primarily night shift hours.

Job Description

This position plays an essential and key role in the apple packing operation. The Compac Spectrim System Operator is responsible for achieving accurate sorting and grading of apples using advanced technology and software. The System Operator ensures that every apple is sorted and graded according to its individual characteristics, and packed in the most efficient and precise manner to obtain maximum productivity for both the apple grower and the packing facility.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish parameters that sort out Premium, WX, USX, WFancy, Slice, Peeler, and Juice grades.
• Monitor grade and cullage throughout the day to adjust sorting as fruit changes
• Run samples of fruit before it is packed to ensure mapping accuracy
• Operate and monitor Spectrim technology and equipment.
• Be knowledgeable of each apple variety and its specific grading criteria.
• Demonstrate basic knowledge of fruit grades, pack types, and inventory.
• Communicate with Quality Control personnel to verify sorting and grading accuracy.
• Troubleshoot and resolve equipment/software issues.
• Use knowledge that is acquired through on the job experience, and industry training to aid in making sound, well-informed, and objective decisions.
• Openly share knowledge, seek opportunities to improve your technical and professional skills.
• Maintain good attendance and available to work flexible hours.
• Must be able to arrive and depart from work on time on a regular and consistent basis
• Utilizes all Company communication tools with effectiveness and professionalism

Key Skills:

• Ability to operate Compac’s Spectrim Sorting system
• Ability to perform computations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division correctly.
