What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Baker position at Gilbert House Restaurant?
We’re looking for someone who loves to bake! We’re happy to teach, but we’d like someone who understands the basics and has the patience to work with dough, pies, cookies, muffins, and more. We pride ourselves on our cinnamon rolls, caramel rolls (with homemade caramel), rhubarb muffins, seasonal pies, and so much more! We’re also open to experimenting with your own recipes (bonus if you have gluten-free or dietary-specific experience).
We’re a small team, and while this role is focused on baking, we all pitch in where needed. If you’re open to learning prep, dishes, or even line cooking down the road, that’s a bonus. For now, though, this position is about taking ownership of our baking needs and keeping our case stocked with the goods we’re known for.
Requirements:
- 18 years (required for working safely with ovens and knives)
- Positive attitude and respectful behavior — we run a non-toxic, family-style kitchen where we lift each other up
- Can-do problem solver who takes action rather than just pointing out issues
- Punctual and reliable — being on time and following through matters in a small business
- Open to feedback, willing to ask questions, and no big egos in the kitchen
- Some kitchen experience (doesn’t have to be years of baking, just enough to jump in safely)
Hours & Pay:
- 2–3 baking shifts per week (usually one early in the week and one before the weekend, but flexible)
- Pay starts at $17 /hour DOE with a 30-day review and potential raise based on performance
Perks:
- Flexible scheduling and time off when communicated ahead of time
- Free kitchen meal each shift
I look forward to talking with you about this opportunity!
