Level of Supervision or Independent Judgement- Perform duties, often as the sole provider on site, with intermittent direct supervision following procedures, instructions, directions, and training given.

Duties and ResponsibilitiesSecurity Guards are expected to perform any or all duties listed below in a safe, efficient, and effective manner. - Lock and unlock doors and gates of entrances and exits to secure buildings and property as needed.
- Answer alarms and investigate disturbances discovered or reported.
- Circulate among students, community members, visitors, and employees to preserve order and protect property.
- Respond to requests for assistance as appropriate to maintain the safety and security of campus visitors.
- Call police or fire departments in cases of emergency such as fire or the presence of unauthorized persons.
- Respond to medical emergencies by administering basic first aid and/or by obtaining assistance from emergency medical personnel.
- Write reports of shift activities and irregularities such as equipment or property damage, theft, or other unusual occurrences.
- Perform similar duties not specifically listed as directed.
Qualifications and Education Requirements- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Basic first aid or other emergency response training.
- Ability to pass a background screening process and/or obtain a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card is necessary.
Preferred Skills- Previous experience within a security or peace officer environment.
- Well-developed people skills and the ability to react calmly and effectively in stressful situations.
- Familiarity with and understanding of safe work practices particularly when performing general physical activities.
Work EnvironmentDuties are performed in buildings or other enclosed, generally climate-controlled structures as well as parking lots, sidewalks, grounds, and other external environments. Use of technology, vehicles, and other security tools requires both fine and gross motor skills. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures and rain, snow, wind, and other weather is expected. Some work situations may induce moderate to severe mental and/or physical stress. |
