Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Safety Specialist to join our team at a fast-paced Pharmacy fulfillment warehouse. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing safety programs and procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA standards, pharmacy regulations, and company policies. The Safety Specialist will foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement to protect our team members, ensure product integrity, and support efficient operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and monitor warehouse safety programs and training specific to pharmaceutical handling and order fulfillment operations.
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and facility inspections to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, FDA, DEA).
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses; maintain accurate reports and implement corrective actions.
- Lead training sessions for warehouse personnel on safety procedures, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), proper material handling, and emergency response protocols.
- Collaborate with HR and operations management to ensure workers' compensation claims are appropriately documented and followed up.
- Maintain MSDS/SDS documentation and oversee chemical storage safety.
- Participate in the design and implementation of ergonomic solutions to reduce workplace injuries.
- Serve as the primary contact for regulatory inspections related to safety.
- Promote safety awareness and drive continuous improvement through employee engagement, suggestion programs, and visual communication tools.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 2–4 years of experience in warehouse, logistics, or manufacturing safety.
- Prior experience in a regulated environment such as pharmaceutical, food, or healthcare is a plus.
- Certifications:
- OSHA 30-hour General Industry certification required (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
- CSP, CHST, or other safety-related certifications are a plus.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety best practices, and hazard communication.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to lead safety meetings and training.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple priorities under deadlines.
- Comfortable using digital tools for safety tracking, reporting, and communication.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to walk the warehouse floor regularly (including stairwells and ladders).
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Wear required PPE (e.g., gloves, goggles, safety shoes) as needed.
