Overview
The Line Leader on the afternoon shift will oversee production/packing lines at Gielow Pickles, ensuring that production goals are met while maintaining quality, safety, and efficiency. This role will lead the line crew, coordinate material flow, monitor equipment and product quality, and communicate effectively with supervisors and other departments.
Duties
- Lead, coach, and coordinate the team on the assigned lines for the afternoon shift.
- Set up the production lines at shift start: ensure correct materials, labels, containers, packaging, and equipment are ready.
- Monitor the production process: ensure product is flowing, that quality standards (size, fill, packaging, labeling) are consistently met.
- Track production output, downtime, and other key metrics; report variances and escalate issues.
- Ensure adherence to food safety / sanitation / GMP guidelines.
- Enforce safety rules and maintain housekeeping standards on the line.
- Train new staff on tasks, equipment, line flow, quality expectations.
- Coordinate with maintenance/engineering when equipment issues arise; assist in change-over or line change-ups.
- Work with the shift supervisor/manager to plan effective manpower, break coverage, line pacing, and materials supply.
- Assist with shutdown and clean-up at end of shift: ensure line is cleaned, materials are secured, documentation is complete.

Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Prior production/packaging experience in a manufacturing or food processing environment is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership or team-lead experience (supervising a small team) is a plus.
- Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and ability to motivate a team.
- Good problem-solving skills: able to identify issues on the line and take prompt action or escalate appropriately.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment, including standing for long periods, repetitive tasks, possibly cold/refrigerated conditions (given facility focus).
- Basic mechanical aptitude (equipment monitoring, recognizing abnormal conditions).
- Strong commitment to safety, sanitation and food-quality standards.
- Flexible work ethic: able to work afternoon shift, overtime, and adapt to production priorities.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.72 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 55 per week
