GENERAL SUMMARY

To assist in the performance of duties necessary to keep the physical structure and associated equipment of Hospital in good repair.  Minor electrical work, mechanical repairs, and other duties relating to maintenance are the primary duties.

To provide personalized, professional healthcare services to the residents of the Communities we serve.


PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Reports Daily to the Facilities Coordinator.

2.    Performs all assigned tasks in a professional manner as to reflect the highest integrity of the Plant Operations and Facilities Management Department.  

3.    Maintains and repairs H.V.A.C. controls and associated equipment to maximize efficiency levels in all environmentally controlled areas. 

4.    Performs urgent corrective, routine, and requisitioned repairs of electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems as required.

5.    Performs preventive maintenance on equipment and systems as required. 

6.     Maintains electrical wiring and emergency generator systems.Inspects and tests equipment systems.

7.    Performs preventive maintenance duties to all physical structures of Hospital and complies with all building safety codes.  This is to include facility equipment and associated controls.

8.    Replaces, installs, repairs and tests electrical circuits, equipment, appliances and lighting systems as required.

9.    Maintains routine records of all inspections, preventative maintenance, work orders and repairs performed on any equipment or system. 

10.    Performs manual duties as requested (i.e., moving supplies or furniture, replacing light bulbs, removing trash or scrap material). 


11.    Reads blueprints, interprets instructions, and prepares specifications.

12.    Works day, evening, or night shift as assigned.

13.    May require performing emergency duties. Performs others duties as assigned which may not necessarily be job related.  May be required to obtain additional training to keep abreast of new products and procedures.

14.    Prompt and regular attendance required.

15.    Performs other assigned duties as directed.

16.    Responds to emergency call-in snow removal

17.    Normal working hours (1st Shift) 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

18.    Ability to take Call Time.

19.    Orders replacement stock & repair parts.    

Qualifications:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1.    Physical strength to perform the following lifting tasks without a mechanical aid:

•    Floor to waist - 60 pounds
•    14” to waist - 60 pounds
•    Waist to shoulder - 60 pounds
•    Shoulder to overhead - 30 pounds
•    Carry 60 pounds for 30 feet
•    Push 50 pounds/force for 30 feet
•    Pull 50 pounds/force for 30 feet
•    Single arm carry 40 pounds for 30 feet
•    Ladder climb with single arm carry of 20 pounds

.May be exposed to disagreeable environmental conditions, including dirt, noise, heights, cramped working spaces and areas/tasks where caution must be exercised to insure safety. 


REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

Reports to the Facilities Management Coordinator.


EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

1.    High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. 

2.    Some appropriate trade/technical/vocational training is desired. 

3.    Ability to instruct others in the performance of tasks. 

4.     Ability to do work in his own of his position without more that the normal supervision.

5.    Ability to work well on his own, and to inspect facilities and equipment. 

6.    A working knowledge of heating, air conditioning, spot and central systems. 

7.    A basic working knowledge of electrical equipment and systems. 

8.    A working knowledge of fuel and steam systems. 

9.    Ability to perform mechanical repairs. 

10.    A working knowledge of fire alarm and signal systems.

11.    A thorough knowledge of how to use and maintain plant tools and equipment. 

12.    Knowledge and observance of safety precautions.

13.    Ability to perform carpentry repairs. 

14.    Ability to perform routine plumbing repairs.

15.    Ability to read blueprints and interpret instructions.

16.    Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license.

INFECTION EXPOSURE RISK LEVEL
Category 2– Minimal Risk - This job may expose you occasionally or in emergency situations to blood, body fluids or tissue.  The Hepatitis B vaccine shall be made available.

WORKING CONDITIONS

1.    Good vision

2.    Good Hearing

3.    Fully mobile on steps, ladders, etc. 

4.    Sufficient mobility and dexterity of either arms (or mechanical substitutes) to safety operate hand and power tools, gages, valves, etc. 

5.    Able to bend, stoop, and lift 60 pounds objects. 

6.    Physical requirement may be met with the aid of mechanical devices.  They are those minimally necessary for the safe completion of duties.  They are not intended to discriminate against handicapped persons, only to insure safe working conditions for all persons.  Mechanical assistance devices may not be such that they interfere with normal safety aids (modified if necessary) such as safety goggles, hearing protection, etc. 

Salary : $19 - $29
