About the Role:
In anticipation of future government awards, GiaCare Inc. is now accepting applications for Interventional Radiological Technologists to support Fort Belvoir Community Hospital (FBCH) in Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
Education and Experience:
- Graduation from an interventional radiology technologist education program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
Minimum 5 years of experience in Interventional Radiology.
Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English to effectively communicate with patients and healthcare staff.
Familiar with radiology equipment and supply terminology, with the ability to use and explain proper usage to radiologists, staff, patients, and families.
Skilled in educating patients on self-care and encouraging compliance to promote healing.
Competent in providing age-appropriate care for all patient groups: Infants, Children, Adolescents, Adults, and Geriatrics.
Knowledgeable in growth and development principles relevant to each age group.
Understanding of a broad range of adult medical conditions, diagnostic procedures, and preventive care is preferred.
Experienced in applying professional care practices in radiology, including adult and geriatric assessments.
Proficient in basic computer operations, including word processing, data entry, and electronic medical records.
Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT)
Duties:
Patient Care & Clinical Support:
Deliver nursing care across all ages using the nursing process
Assist with patient prep, recovery, education, vital signs, IV access, and central line management
Administer oxygen, CPR, and ACLS in emergencies
Maintain accurate documentation in EMRs and handle lab specimens
Interventional Radiology (IR) & Cardiology Procedures:
Support radiologists and cardiologists during diagnostic and interventional procedures (e.g., angiography, embolization, catheterizations, biopsies, stent placements)
Scrub in to assist with instruments and sterile fields
Operate IR and cardiology imaging systems including Digital Subtraction Angiography, portable x-ray units, and infusion/injector pumps
Technical Knowledge & Equipment Management:
Apply principles of radiation safety, anatomy, physiology, and radiologic physics
Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot complex imaging and injection equipment
Calibrate, disinfect, and maintain equipment; initiate repairs and supply restocking
Ensure readiness via routine checklists, crash cart checks, and inventory control
Compliance, Safety & Training:
Adhere to Joint Commission standards, infection control, and safety regulations
Maintain sterile technique and quality assurance practices
Participate in mandatory training, competency reviews, and lead tech rotation
Assist with onboarding of staff and students; maintain training records
