Baby with the Bathwater by Christopher Durang
Directed by Kathleen & Kevin Vaught
Baby with the Bathwater is a darkly absurd comedy presented in an exaggerated, farcical style, about how difficult it is to be a parent, and how scary it is to be a baby and a child. For all its intense themes and extreme satire around parental/adult dysfunction and the damage it can cause, the play has a hopeful ending. Content warnings - this play deals with neglect and abuse of a child, alcoholism, violence and self-harm, and gender dysphoria.
We are actively seeking six actors from diverse ethnic and racial communities and all gender identities for Baby with the Bathwater. Some actors may play doubled roles.

Daisy - the child of Helen and John, whose sex was incorrectly assigned at birth by their parents, has lived a life of polite confusion and resilience as they searched for their identity.
Nanny - an extremely warped version of Mary Poppins with erratic mood swings. (This actor will also play Kate and Mrs. Willoughby.)
Cynthia - neighbor to Helen and John who is deeply eccentric and distraught at the loss of her own child. (This actor will also play Angela, Miss Pringle, and Susan.)
hystyria written and directed by Riley Webster
In rural, isolated 1820s Styria, nineteen year old Laura Kingswell wakes to find a woman—or an angel?—looming at the foot of her bed. She is told it was only a dream. A defect. A feminine affliction. But when her dream becomes flesh and the strange woman takes up residence in the home, cracks in the household's carefully ordered foundation begin to rupture wide open. And so does Laura.
Hystyria is a contemporary, physical, and female-centric reframing of the 1872 novella Carmilla by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu. It premiered in New York City in association with the New York Theater Festival for three performances in January & February 2026. Prior to the festival, the show was initially student workshopped at Long Island University Post's Lab Theatre.
Actors should have a strong sense of character body and stylized movement.
We are actively seeking six actors from diverse ethnic and racial communities and all gender identities for hystyria.
LAURA 18-25. A suffocatingly lonely ingenue-adjacent. Protected, corrected, contained. Pulled between repression and awakening. But hungry.
CARMILLA 20-25. A dream made flesh. A catalyst. The reaper. Alluring, intense, and incredibly enigmatic.
PAPA 40 . A widowed English veteran living abroad in Styria. Laura’s solid, grounded, and well-meaning father. His love for Laura is genuine.
MADAME PERRODON 40s-50s. Laura’s nanny and maternal guardian. A woman of propriety. Stern, pious, and ever watchful.
MADEMOISELLE DE LAFONTAINE 20s-30s. Laura’s finishing governess and tutor; not quite family nor servant. She brings the possibility of a world beyond the estate.
DOCTOR HESSELIUS 30s-40s. A highly educated and cold physician. Mystery, womanhood, and desire must all be tamed beneath his diagnosis.
