JOB SUMMARY:
The Project Engineer supports project management teams by coordinating technical aspects of construction projects, ensuring compliance with specifications, and assisting in project planning, scheduling, and execution. This role acts as a bridge between the office and the field, facilitating smooth communication and project efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination & Execution
- Assist in project planning, scheduling, and execution to ensure timely completion.
- Review project plans, specifications, and contracts to ensure alignment with scope and objectives.
- Work closely with the project manager, superintendent, and subcontractors to resolve technical issues.
- Monitor project progress, document changes, and ensure compliance with project plans.
Technical Support & Document Control
- Conduct submittal reviews, RFIs (Requests for Information), and shop drawing approvals.
- Maintain accurate project records, including daily reports, meeting minutes, and logs.
- Assist in preparing change orders and tracking cost impacts.
- Ensure quality control by conducting site inspections and verifying work meets contract specifications.
Communication & Collaboration
- Facilitate communication between architects, engineers, subcontractors, and clients.
- Participate in project meetings and contribute to problem-solving discussions.
- Coordinate material procurement and delivery schedules with vendors and suppliers.
- Support project closeout activities, including punch lists and final documentation.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
- Assist in enforcing job site safety standards and conducting safety audits.
- Report and track safety incidents and assist with resolution efforts.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of experience in construction pre-project engineering.
- Experience with commercial, residential, or industrial construction projects preferred.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in construction management software (Procore, Bluebeam, or similar).
- Familiarity with scheduling software (Microsoft Project, or similar).
- Strong understanding of construction methods (MEPs), materials, and industry standards.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Soft Skills:
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
- Team-oriented with a proactive approach to project coordination.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Primarily office-based with regular travel to job sites.
- May require standing, walking, and exposure to construction site conditions.
- Ability to work flexible hours based on project needs.
