Packaging Engineer
Location: Tempe, AZ (On-site minimum 3 days/week)
Position Summary
We are seeking a Packaging Engineer to support the design, development, testing, and validation of sterile medical device packaging systems. This role will focus on sterile barrier packaging including polymer trays, Tyvek lids, and flexible film pouches, while partnering cross-functionally with R&D, quality, manufacturing, and suppliers.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop sterile medical packaging solutions
- Support packaging activities for polymer trays, Tyvek lids, and film pouches
- Execute design verification and validation testing, including seal strength, burst, leak, aging, and distribution testing
- Create and maintain technical documentation, protocols, and reports
- Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to support product development and manufacturing
- Ensure compliance with FDA, ISO 11607, and applicable medical device packaging standards
- Support troubleshooting, investigations, and continuous improvement activities
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field preferred
- Minimum 2 years of experience in sterile medical packaging engineering
- Experience with sterile barrier systems and design verification testing
- Familiarity with polymer trays, Tyvek lids, and flexible film pouches
- Knowledge of ISO 11607 and medical device packaging requirements
- Strong communication and technical documentation skills
Work Environment
- On-site in Tempe at least 3 days per week
- Collaborative team environment with two on-site packaging engineers
