Engineer II - Civil Design

An exciting opportunity is available to join Gewalt Hamilton Associates (GHA), an employee-owned, multi-faceted civil engineering and land surveying company that has built a reputation of civil engineering with a personal approach. We are seeking an Engineer II to join our growing Civil Design team in Vernon Hills or Schaumburg, Illinois. 

How you will make an impact: 

The Engineer II will report to the Division Director and perform engineering design tasks for site design improvements, storm and sanitary sewer projects, water main improvements, park improvements, parking lot improvements, and other related design projects from conceptual to final design. This role is an exempt, salary, position. We offer a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with civil design projects including geometrics, profiles/grading, storm sewer, detention calculations, utility coordination, bid items, and specifications.
• Assist with construction drawings using AutoCAD software.
• Perform and document field investigations.
• Visit project sites to assist construction observation duties.
• Work under the supervision and mentoring of civil engineers and designers.
• Work in a team setting with other team members within all divisions of the company.

What you bring to Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc 

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field. 

Experience:

• Two (2) years of civil engineering, municipal engineering, or design experience.
• Engineering Intern (EIT) in the State of Illinois preferred.
• Valid Driver's License and registered insured personal vehicle.

Required Skills and Abilities: 

• Read, interpret, and assist in the development of technical documents and calculations associated with the position.
• Assist in the development of technical documents including the ability to apply discipline design criteria and frequently requires the use of engineering design software.
• Self-starting, detail-oriented individual that demonstrates curiosity about individual project processes or project subject matter and willingness to participate in various training activities.
• Work in collaborative environment while completing supportive engineering tasks with limited oversight.
• Ability to manage personal schedule to adhere to multiple assignment deadlines while communicating progress status.
• Assist in the development of portions of project proposals.
• Proficiency with software products:
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • PDF editing software (Adobe, Bluebeam, etc.)

Salary : $74,880 - $89,440
