We are seeking a collaborative and dynamic Assistant Principal to support instructional leadership, school culture, and daily operations.
Summary
The Assistant Principal who will work closely with the CEO/Principal to support the overall administration of the school, including curriculum leadership, staff supervision, student discipline, and school operations. This role plays a key part in maintaining a positive school climate and ensuring high-quality instruction aligned with Montessori philosophy.
Qualifications:
- PA state certification in school administration
- Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience
- Master’s degree in education or related field (required)
- Montessori credentials (preferred)
- Experience in an educational setting (preferred)
- Completion of all required clearances (criminal history, PA child abuse, FBI, Act 168)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of current research and trends in teaching and learning
- Familiarity with PA School Code and Charter School Law
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to lead, motivate, and collaborate with staff, students, and families
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and work both independently and as part of a team
- Understanding of curriculum, psychology, and human development
- Physical ability to perform duties such as standing, walking, lifting up to 20 lbs., and operating office equipment
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the CEO/Principal in fulfilling the goals and objectives of the school.
- Assist the CEO/Principal in the administration of instructional programs/professional development.
- Provide leadership for curriculum development and implementation in cooperation with CEO/Principal and teachers.
- Implement Board policies in conjunction with the CEO/Principal.
- Accept responsibility as delegated by the CEO/Principal for the administration and supervision of the school per the policies developed by the Board.
- Observe, evaluate, and supervise the work of teachers and support staff as directed by the CEO/Principal.
- Participate/facilitate, in cooperation with CEO/Principal, in Teacher Induction Program activities/Montessori training for assistants.
- Member of the Threat Assessment Team (TAT).
- Implement safety drills for fire, severe weather, lockdowns, etc.
- Assist the CEO/Principal in creating/orchestrating the master schedule for instruction, recess, and lunch.
- Assist the CEO/Principal in developing, maintaining, and communicating building procedures to staff, parents, and students.
- Assist the CEO/Principal with recruiting, screening, interviewing, recommending, and orientating, new staff, as needed.
- Assist in mentoring new staff.
- Assist the CEO/Principal in developing and/or maintaining an effective school/community relations program.
- Implement the systems of evaluation and supervision of instruction developed or improvement of professional teachers and instruction, including observation, report preparation, conferencing, monthly meetings, assisting, and providing instructional leadership.
- Lesson plan review and follow-up as needed/impromptu check-ins.
- Collaborate with the BI team with disciplinary action.
- Communicate with the transportation director concerning bus behaviors and issue sanctions based on district-wide protocols.
- Supervise student conduct and assume responsibility for the enforcement of discipline, as necessary, providing due process for the rights of students; maintaining accurate documentation; authorizing suspensions as needed and informing CEO/Principal of the suspensions; developing/implementing rules, regulations, and program to promote positive student behaviors; and conferring with parents, teachers, counselors, support service personnel, and students when necessary to obtain information to resolve problems.
- Attend field trips as needed for behavioral support.
- Implementation and support of PBIS/Student of the Month awards and follow up with parent contact, award lunch, and special activity.
- Assist in the set-up and participation in co-curricular activities family nights, open houses, talent shows, science fairs, etc..
- Support the music program, concerts, and drama productions.
- Assess the needs of the staff/review data, prepare and facilitate staff programs/meetings, and assist the CEO/Principal in the development and delivery of in-service professional development programs for building staff.
- Editor for staff.
- Address problems/issues concerning staff members and write up when necessary.
- Cultivate positive staff morale/culture.
- Foster positive human relations with each child and adult affiliated with GMCS.
- Give tours to interested families.
- Coordinate the Summer School Program
- Attend School Board meetings.
- SAP team member meetings.
- Coordinate and attend parent meetings.
- Monthly grade band meetings with all instructional staff per group (Teachers, Assistants, Specialists, PCAs).
- Attend IEP meetings as the LEA representative.
- Plan and facilitate staff meetings.
- Keep abreast of new and innovative programs and resources, which may be applied to the goals of GMCS.
- Professional development/professional responsibilities (WIN), Montessori for School Leaders, Principal Inspired Leadership.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO/Principal.
Evaluation:
This position is evaluated annually by the CEO/Principal based on job performance and alignment with Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Leadership.
