Responsibilities
- Safely operate commercial trucks including tractor-trailers, refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, and tankers on over-the-road (OTR) routes while complying with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Plan routes using GPS navigation systems to ensure efficient delivery schedules and optimal travel paths.
- Load and unload freight with proper manual handling techniques, ensuring cargo safety during transit.
- Transport hazardous materials (hazmat) and dangerous goods following hazardous materials regulations and safety protocols.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to identify maintenance needs or safety issues.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, deliveries, and cargo handling in compliance with FMCSA regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding delivery status, route changes, or any issues encountered on the road.
- Ensure all cargo is secured properly for transport, including refrigerated goods requiring temperature control or specialized equipment like tanker or flatbed trailers.
- Deliver freight to various locations promptly while providing excellent customer service during drop-offs.
Experience
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including route driving and delivery driving across diverse terrains.
- Familiarity with refrigerated trailer operation, automobile transportation, flatbed hauling, tanker operations, and hazardous materials handling is preferred.
- Knowledge of truck loading/unloading procedures and logistics cargo handling techniques.
- Ability to operate manual transmission trucks safely and efficiently.
- Strong understanding of FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration), DOT (Department of Transportation), and hazardous materials regulations.
- Experience navigating using GPS systems on long-haul routes is highly valued.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL), with endorsements for hazmat or tanker operations as applicable.
