Position Overview:
We are looking for a skilled Material Handler and Material Press Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to safety, quality standards, and teamwork. This role involves operating heavy machinery and handling materials efficiently while maintaining a safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Heavy Equipment Operation: Operate heavy equipment such as grapple/mag cranes, mobile balers, and other machinery essential to metal handling.
- Inspection and Maintenance: Perform daily inspections, safety checks, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs of equipment. Ensure that all equipment is in proper working order by checking required fluids and greasing components. Report equipment deficiencies or malfunctions promptly.
- Material Quality Control: Inspect materials to ensure they meet quality standards and understand materials grades. Identify unprepared materials and operate the baler to convert them to a prepared state, considering size, thickness, and physical dimensions.
- Scrap Loading and Unloading: Utilize a magnet crane to load and unload scrap materials into appropriate piles for delivery or onto trucks and railcars for shipping.
- Communication and Coordination: Communicate effectively with team members about production issues, concerns, or operational needs. Follow crew member hand or audio signals to position or move loads safely.
- Continuous Improvement: Suggest improvements in work methods and procedures to enhance productivity and efficiency. Cross-train in other roles and support team members as needed.
- Safety and Housekeeping: Maintain safety standards at all times, wearing the required PPE. Keep work areas clean and clear of debris, ensuring good housekeeping practices.
- General Labor and Physical Requirements: Perform various general labor duties, which may include sweeping, shoveling, raking, snow removal, and physically handling materials and supplies. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and have full range of motion for bending, twisting, climbing, and extending.
- Training and Mentoring: Train other employees as needed to promote a cohesive team environment.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Prior experience operating equipment, including forklifts, wheel loaders, bobcats, stationary balers, or shears, is desirable.
- Experience operating mobile cranes (1 year required).
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.00 - $23.00 per hour
