Gert Labs is taking a creative approach to reinforcement learning with a new class of RL environments and benchmarks. Based in San Francisco, California, our work focuses on advancing AI capabilities to solve difficult, real-world problems, with a specialty in pushing frontier model intelligence.
Role Description
This is a full-time hybrid (mostly remote) position based in SF. As Head of Engineering, you will have significant autonomy to design and execute creative new RL pipelines and backend initiatives. You'll help us scale to trillions of matches per day, oversee technical teams, and drive the engineering roadmap forward.
We're a small team, and we move fast. Significant agency is essential to succeed here. This is the fun job--we're looking for someone who thinks outside the box, questions assumptions, and is no stranger to inventing new things to solve problems. This is a startup environment, but we're obsessive about quality and architecting things to work at scale.
Qualifications
- Extensive professional experience in software development. Tell us about (or ideally, show us) the most impressive things you've built.
- Bachelor’s degree in CS, EE, or a related technical discipline.
- We're mostly looking for a senior engineer for this role, but we'll make exceptions for younger engineers with exceptional drive and accomplishment who share our vision
- Extensive familiarity with AI and coding tools. Show us your current dev stack and what you've built with it.
Compensation is heavy on equity 2-5%, 140-180k salary. We have not raised outside funding and will likely not need to, so the equity we're offering is real undiluted upside.
