We're Hiring: Janitorial Technician (Part-time 10-15 Hours per Week) JT20251121

Overview

The Janitorial Technician ensures that the library remains clean, safe, and functional throughout the day. This position plays a direct role in supporting patron satisfaction and workplace professionalism through routine cleaning, responsive maintenance, and clear communication with staff and visitors. The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, and comfortable working independently within a structured system.

Responsibilities:

Daily Cleaning and Restocking

• Clean and sanitize all public and staff restrooms (toilets, sinks, mirrors, floors).
• Empty trash and recycling throughout the building; replace liners as needed.
• Wipe down high-touch surfaces such as door handles, railings, counters, and service desks.
• Sweep and mop hard floors; vacuum carpets in high-traffic areas.

General Upkeep of Public Spaces

• Maintain cleanliness in entrances, lobbies, reading rooms, meeting rooms, and study areas.
• Clean interior glass and public-facing windows.
• Lightly dust shelves, furniture, and equipment on a rotating schedule.

Event and Program Support

• Set up and take down tables, chairs, and equipment for programs and events.
• Clean program areas before and after use to maintain seamless service for patrons.

Special and Seasonal Cleaning

• Perform deep-cleaning tasks such as carpet spot-cleaning, baseboards, and window washing.
• Apply salt/absorbent materials at entrances during winter to reduce slip hazards.
• Monitor and report any pest-control indicators to the Facilities Manager.
• Wash, rotate, and maintain entrance mats to control dirt and moisture.

Supply and Equipment Management

• Track and restock janitorial supplies before quantities run low.
• Maintain organized, safe janitorial closets and storage spaces.
• Ensure cleaning tools and equipment remain functional, clean, and safely stored.
• Restock restroom supplies including toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and feminine hygiene products.

Qualifications

• Prior custodial or janitorial experience preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and perform physical tasks such as bending, standing, and moving equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and time-management skills.
• Reliability, professionalism, and comfort working independently.
