Germanna is looking to hire a manager for the Writing Support Services portion of the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE). The Manager of ACE Writing Support Services will assume responsibility for the day-to-day management and staffing of the Fredericksburg Writing Center and the ACE Online Drop-in Writing Center and will provide writing assistance to students during individual and group sessions during day and evening hours. The incumbent will also deliver on-campus and online specialized group instruction including, but not limited to, citation style workshops, grammar workshops, vocabulary reviews, peer editing sessions, research methodology, and tutorials focused on specific writing topics. The Manager of ACE Writing Support Services will collaborate with faculty to ensure that the Writing Center is prepared to help students achieve the learning objectives established for writing intensive courses at Germanna. The Manager of ACE Writing Support Services will supervise the Writing Support Specialists to provide just-in-time intervention programs and will assist with the training and professional development for tutors and Writing Support Specialists throughout the year. The incumbent will be expected to maintain a current knowledge of trends in writing remediation and best practices utilized by educational Writing Centers and will also be expected to maintain an awareness of curricular changes that might require the support of the Writing Center. The Writing Support Specialist will work in a team environment where all staff contribute to the development of programs and services designed to support the mission of Germanna and the academic success of all students. academic semesters. He or she will also be expected to maintain an awareness of curricular changes that might require the support of the Writing Center. He or she will collaborate with the Academic Center for Excellence staff to develop programs and services designed to support the mission of Germanna Community College and the academic success of all students.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide appropriate writing instruction to students, so they will be able to achieve academic success and independence in course work.
- Help students gain familiarity with multiple types of citation styles such as MLA, APA, and Chicago Manual Style.
- Deliver on-campus and online specialized group instruction including, but not limited to, citation style workshops, grammar workshops, vocabulary reviews, peer editing sessions, research methodology, and tutorials focused on specific writing topics.
- Oversee the development and publication of writing support resources for students.
- Supervise the Writing Support Specialists to provide just-in-time intervention program.
- Provide training and professional development for tutors and Writing Support Specialists throughout the year.
- Visit English and other writing intensive classes to inform students of the availability of ACE services and resources.
- Create writing tutorials and supplemental handouts that students can view from the ACE website.
- Explore, develop and manage opportunities for specialized writing tutoring via Zoom, including the development of graphic tools to be integrated into sessions.
- Serve as a liaison between the Academic Center for Excellence and faculty in the English Department.

- Competency in all writing topics ranging from English composition, grammar, rhetoric, scientific writing, argumentative writing, research papers, creative writing, literary analysis, and poetry.
- Tutoring and/or teaching experience
- Ability to develop, organize, manage, and execute projects
- Microsoft Office Tools, including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Google Apps for Education
- Familiarity with online information, teaching, and learning environment
- Strong oral and written communication skills required
- Excellent organizational and judgment skills required
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Bachelor of Arts degree in English or related field
- Experience teaching or tutoring in higher education preferred.
- Experience with online learning tools such as Canvas and Zoom or other comparable systems
- Experience working with a diverse student body preferred
