For over 60 years, GISW has been teaching children from preschool through twelfth grade. Aside from being the first MINT-EC certified school in the USA, GISW offers a U.S. High School Diploma as well as a German International Abitur (DIA) to its students.
The German International School Washington D.C. is seeking a Maintenance Technician for its bilingual Preschool to 12th grade school located in Potomac, MD. This position reports to the Facilities Manager.
GENERAL INFORMATION
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for a variety of facilities, infrastructure, furniture assembly, equipment maintenance and repair tasks at the semi-skilled level. This position interacts with faculty, staff and vendors. This position is full-time and non-exempt.
General working hours: Monday through Friday, 9am - 6pm with a one-hour lunch break
DESCRIPTION
- Perform basic handyman maintenance as needed for upkeep of the buildings, equipment and furnishings, including electrical, carpentry, drywall repair, painting and plumbing
- Moving, assembling and breaking down of furniture, shelves, cabinets, etc.
- Monthly routine preventative maintenance checks of all buildings and equipment, both indoors and outdoors
- Secure each building and turn on its alarm
- Event/function set ups and take downs
- Assist with snow removal/salting and other weather-related concerns
- Driving errands and supply runs with school vehicle
- Additional duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent strongly preferred
- Trade/Job related certifications highly preferred
- At least 2 years of experience in general maintenance work, HVAC experience a plus
- School or non-profit experience preferred
- Ability to use technical equipment, including email communication, Microsoft Teams and ticketing systems communication
- Ability to start, stop and return to complete work as needed
- Driver’s license required, CDL a plus
- Flexibility and willingness to work evenings and Saturdays on occasion
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Proficiency in English required, proficiency in German not required but is a plus
- Position is subject to fingerprint based background check
- Authorized to work in the United States for any employer
