Position Summary
Guilmette Middle School (grades 5–8) seeks a passionate Theater Teacher to provide engaging, standards-based instruction in theater arts for students across grades 5–8. The teacher will create opportunities for students to develop confidence, strengthen communication skills, and express their ideas through performance and the study of theater.
The Theater Teacher will design learning experiences that encourage creativity, reflection, collaboration, and academic discourse while fostering a classroom environment where students feel comfortable taking creative risks. The teacher will work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and school leaders to support student success and contribute to a positive school culture.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction and Student Learning
•Plan and deliver standards-based theater instruction aligned to state and district expectations.
•Create engaging learning experiences that develop students' performance, communication, and critical thinking skills.
•Incorporate opportunities for discussion, reflection, and academic discourse through theater activities and performances.
•Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
•Assess student learning and use data to inform instructional decisions.
Program Development
•Develop and maintain a theater curriculum that supports student growth across grades 5–8.
•Prepare students for performances, showcases, and other opportunities to demonstrate their learning.
•Maintain instructional materials, costumes, props, and equipment as appropriate.
Collaboration
•Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and participation.
•Participate actively in grade-level teams, professional learning communities, and schoolwide initiatives.
•Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary learning opportunities when appropriate.
•Contribute to a positive and collaborative school culture.
Professional Responsibilities
•Participate in ongoing professional learning and growth.
•Uphold district policies, professional standards, and ethical responsibilities.
•Foster positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
•Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.
Qualifications Required
•Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
•Massachusetts DESE licensure in Theater (All Levels) or appropriate licensure.
•SEI Endorsement.
Qualifications Preferred
•Experience teaching theater at the middle school level.
•Experience directing student performances or productions.
•Experience working in urban school settings.
•Bilingual in English and Spanish.
