Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation Development Intern
The Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation seeks a motivated and detail-oriented Development Intern for the summer to support fundraising operations, donor engagement, and public programming. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit development while contributing to a nationally significant institution dedicated to civic education, leadership, and public service.
Named for the 38th President of the United States, the Foundation works to advance civic literacy and promote the leadership values exemplified by President and Mrs. Ford. Interns play an important role in supporting initiatives that reach students, educators, and engaged citizens across the country.
Internship Details
Term: May – August
Location: Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum / Foundation Office, Grand Rapids, MI
Schedule: Part-time
Compensation: $19 per hour
Key Responsibilities
Donor Database & Research
- Support data entry and record maintenance in the Foundation’s donor database
- Assist with donor research and list preparation for campaigns and events
- Help maintain accurate and organized constituent records
Gift Processing & Stewardship
- Assist with gift entry and acknowledgment processes
- Support preparation of donor communications and stewardship materials
- Help track pledges and fundraising campaign progress
Event Planning & Execution
- Assist with logistics for Foundation programs and donor events
- Support registration management and guest communications
- Provide on-site support during events, including check-in and hospitality
Learning Outcomes
Interns will gain:
- Exposure to nonprofit fundraising strategy and donor relations
- Experience with CRM/database systems and development operations
- Event planning and project management skills
- Professional communication and administrative experience
- Insight into presidential legacy institutions and civic education programming
Qualifications
- Current undergraduate or graduate student
- Interest in nonprofit management, political science, history, communications, public administration, or related field
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Professional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; database experience a plus
