Factory Machine Maintenance - Apprentice
Function:
This program will work under the direction of Manufacturing Engineering and will work in the Machine Maintenance Department, under the direction of Sergio Guerra or a Maintenance Mechanic that Sergio Guerra designates.
Scope:
Persons selected for the apprentice program will learn to safely maintain equipment throughout the Geospace Manufacturing Department at Pinemont Drive. From time to time, this position will include installing mechanical fixtures and supports; software program updates that will allow a type of machine to run faster, or more smoothly; or to install mechanical devices to support heavier or larger product runs than ever before.
Duties/Responsibilities:
This position will learn to provide technical support for machines in the following areas:
- Injection Molding machines
- Machine Shop – grinders, borers, CNC Mills and CNC Lathes
- Cable Shop – Cablers, Jacketing Extruders, Twinners, Armoring
- Forklifts
- Handcarts

Skills/Experience:
Interested candidates should have the following skills, knowledge, and abilities to be considered for the apprenticeship and/or the capacity to quickly learn the intellectual skills:
- Mechanical aptitude
- Work history must demonstrate safety awareness
- Read and understand electrical diagrams
- Ability to lift 80 lbs. (Alternatives are under review by HSE)
- Read and write in English: comprehend written English quickly and be able to express machine problems and repairs in English to make entries to a repair log on each machine maintained. (Most of the machine manuals are only available in English.)
- Experience maintaining mechanical devices and machinery experience repairing electrical and mechanical devices.
- Must be able to learn quickly and to learn by doing. This job is “hands-on” and you will get dirty hands and sweaty from the physical exertion.
- This is a very ACTIVE job. Persons who have a high need for physical movement will like this type of work.
- Ability to perform electrical and mechanical diagnostics and troubleshoot. (Can be taught.)
- Night shift position will follow production work schedule
- Need to be a "self-starter" that need little to no supervision.
- Computer and tablet knowledge.
Working Conditions & Safety Concerns:
Ability to work flexible hours if needed to complete Preventive Maintenance according to scheduled times when the department is not working. May require mandatory weekend work and holiday work to upgrade machinery during non-working hours for that department.
