The Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) graduate program in the Department of Psychology and Counseling at Georgian Court University (GCU) is seeking an energetic and motivated professional to join our department for the Fall 2026 semester. This is a full-time tenure-track position, with initial appointment at the assistant professor level (candidates at the associate or full professor level should also apply, with an expectation of appointment at a level commensurate with experience).  Applicants who desire a traditional academic career with scholarship expectations are encouraged to apply.  

Primary teaching responsibilities for this position will include teaching 24 credits per academic year (12 cr. fall & 12 cr. spring) with the candidate’s primary teaching load in the ABA graduate program. Four 3-credit courses per semester is the standard teaching load at GCU for tenure-track faculty.  Scholarship, including publications and presentations at state and national conferences, along with service to the department, school, and university, are expected for tenure and promotion to associate or full professor. Mentorship will be provided by the current department and program leadership.

The Department of Psychology and Counseling houses undergraduate programs leading to a B.A. in Psychology and a B.S. in Psychiatric Rehabilitation and Psychology (jointly with Rutgers University). We offer graduate programs in Applied Behavior Analysis (M.A.), Clinical Mental Health Counseling (M.A. and Professional Certificate), and School Psychology (M.A., Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study, and Psy.D.). This program has been designed to meet the BCBA Pathway 2 coursework requirements.  The ABA graduate program is actively seeking ABAI accreditation.

Essential Functions:

  • Integrate the Mercy core values of respect, integrity, compassion, justice and service in all aspects of interaction.
  • Teach 12 credits of coursework per semester, including courses across the curriculum in the ABA graduate program, as well as courses aligned with the candidate’s specialty area(s) in the undergraduate Psychology program.
  • Teach at the Lakewood, NJ campus and (if necessary) at off-site locations in Monmouth and Ocean Counties.
  • Teach primarily in evenings with some day-time assignments. Summer teaching (evenings) may be available.
  • Develop an active line of scholarship commensurate with a tenure-track position in a teaching university.
  • Participate in state-wide and/or national ABA professional organizations.
  • Participate in department, school, and university service.
  • Participate in ongoing approval and/or accreditation activities for the ABA graduate program.
  • Advise/mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Collaborate in program development, student recruitment, student remediation, and continuous program assessment and improvement.
  • Regularly participate in course assessment and program assessment and be willing to make improvements in teaching/advising.
  • Participate in department functions such as information sessions, open houses, etc.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Qualifications for Assistant Professor Rank (tenure-track):

  • Earned doctorate 
    • Preference will be given to candidates with the doctorate in Psychology or a combination of Psychology and another area in order for a candidate to be considered (e.g., Psychology or Psychology & ABA or Psychology & Special Education).
    • Candidates who are “ABD” will be considered if they can provide evidence that their doctorate will be completed no later than December 2026.
  • Hold the BCBA or BCBA-D credential. Candidates who do not hold the BCBA or BCBA-D credential will not be considered.
  • Potential for excellence in instruction at the university level.
  • Potential for sustained scholarship production.
  • Participation in state and/or national ABA professional organizations.
  • Demonstration of commitment to produce competent master’s level ABA practitioners and prepare them to become BCBAs who successfully help others ethically decrease behavioral problems and acquire skills that improve their quality of life.

Salary : $65,000 - $75,000
