Department Information
Undergraduate degree programs include 4-year BS and 5-year BS/MS programs in Biology and Bioinformatics. Graduate degree programs include: MS and PhD in Biology, MS and PhD in Bioinformatics, MS and PhD in Computational Science and Engineering, as well as PhD in Quantitative Biosciences, Ocean Sciences and Engineering, Applied Physiology, and Dual Degree Doctorate of Physical Therapy/ Doctor of Philosophy. Research strengths include: Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, Ecology, Evolution, Integrative Physiology, Microbial Dynamics and Infection, Neuroscience, Molecular and Cell Biology, and Molecular Biomedical Sciences. The School is home to the two largest and most diverse undergraduate majors in the College of Sciences: Biology and Neuroscience. Faculty members in the School of Biological Sciences have the opportunity to work with students from all majors on campus.
Job Summary
The Research Administration Professional oversees research projects and laboratory operations. This role ensures compliance with funding and institute policies, manages research workflows, lab logistics, and safety protocols, coordinates resources, improves lab processes, and supports data accuracy and regulatory requirements to help achieve effective research results.
Responsibilities
Job Duty 1 -
Lead the administration and oversight of complex research projects, including grant application management, compliance monitoring, and financial reporting aligned with sponsor and institutional guidelines.


Job Duty 2 -
Coordinate laboratory operations, including inventory management, equipment maintenance, safety compliance, and workflow optimization to ensure a productive and compliant research environment.

Job Duty 3 -
Develop, implement, and monitor research project timelines, milestones, and deliverables, anticipating and mitigating potential challenges to maintain project momentum.

Job Duty 4 -
Ensure rigorous adherence to institutional policies, federal, state, and local regulations governing research activities and laboratory safety standards.

Job Duty 5 -
Maintain and audit comprehensive records of research activities, funding sources, regulatory compliance, and laboratory protocols.

Job Duty 6 -
Design and deliver training programs on research administration, laboratory safety, compliance best practices, and policy updates to research personnel.

Job Duty 7 -
Serve as a primary liaison between faculty, researchers, funding agencies, institutional departments, and external partners to facilitate collaboration and streamline communications.

Job Duty 8 -
Organize and lead research-related meetings, workshops, and symposia to foster knowledge exchange, compliance awareness, and operational excellence.
Job Duty 9 -
Evaluate research and laboratory operations to identify inefficiencies, recommend improvements, and implement solutions that enhance overall research productivity and compliance.

Job Duty 10 -
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Associate's Degree in a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Experience
Two or more years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current AAUS (American Academy of Underwater Sciences) Scientific Diver certification and eligibility to conduct scientific SCUBA diving operations.
  • Availability and willingness to travel internationally for extended field deployments (ranging from several weeks to multiple months) throughout the Caribbean and southern tropical Atlantic regions.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting field research on coral reef ecosystems, including underwater data collection, ecological surveys, and experimental studies.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Biology, preferably with an emphasis in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.
  • Strong skills in data organization, management, and quality control for field and laboratory research projects.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in statistical analysis of experimental data, including experience with quantitative ecological datasets and statistical software (e.g., R, Python, SAS, SPSS, or similar).
  • Experience integrating field and laboratory research activities, maintaining detailed records, and contributing to scientific reports, publications, or presentations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in remote field settings and multicultural research environments.
Proposed Salary
Pay Range: $35,568-$41,600/yr.

This is a 12-month, limited-term position and is subject to the availability of funding thereafter. All employment and assignments are ultimately contingent upon available funding, business needs, and your performance of the assignment. Georgia Tech retains the right to terminate this assignment at any time for cause or, in its sole discretion, for convenience; in either case, Georgia Tech's obligation shall be limited to payment for hours and/or days worked prior to the termination date. Any decision to renew this limited-term appointment will be based on funding and performance.
