Atlanta, Georgia
As part of a new College of Sciences initiative, Georgia Tech for Georgia's Tomorrow (GT2), the Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions in: 1) Ecology and 2) Coastal processes, with a preference to the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The U.S. Southeast region, including Georgia, is undergoing rapid environmental and land use change that have far-reaching effects on human and ecological systems. Thus, GT2 was created to address major challenges at the intersection of environmental and community resilience, by aligning discovery science, technological innovation, and AI-enabled decision tools to address urgent challenges.
In Ecology, we seek candidates who will make fundamental contributions to understanding how organisms respond to environmental change, with a particular interest in research that incorporates a behavioral perspective. Relevant research might investigate how human land use changes (e.g., urbanization) or climate change shape animal behavior, movement, foraging, and social dynamics in ways that affect biodiversity and ecosystem function. This hire will advance our ability to use adaptively manage ecosystems to maintain biodiversity and continue to provide ecosystem services to people.
For Coastal Processes, we are seeking candidates who will make fundamental contributions in the broadly-defined area of coastal processes through a range of methodological approaches, and whose research program addresses coastal resilience and solutions. Areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to, coastal and nearshore oceanography, physical hydrology of surface and subsurface water, coastal geomorphology, and coastal hazards such as flooding and subsidence.
An earned doctorate is required by the start of the appointment.
The successful candidates will complement the existing expertise within the College of Sciences (https://cos.gatech.edu/). Strengths in computational modeling, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and remote sensing are highly desirable. Applicants will be considered at all ranks with priority given to exceptional candidates at the assistant or early-associate professor stage. Candidates are expected to demonstrate an exceptional commitment to the teaching and mentoring of students.
