Job Summary
The Histology Technician plays a crucial role in the preparation of tissue samples for diagnostic purposes. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with a strong background in laboratory procedures and techniques. The technician will work closely with dermatology providers and their surgery team(s) to ensure accurate specimen processing and analysis, contributing to patient care and treatment decisions.
Duties
- Prepare and process tissue specimens for microscopic examination, including embedding, sectioning, and staining.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with safety standards and protocols.
- Perform quality control checks on prepared slides to ensure accuracy and reliability of results.
- Assist in specimen collection and processing.
- Document laboratory procedures and maintain accurate records of all tests performed.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure timely delivery of results for patient diagnosis.
Skills
- Clinical laboratory experience is preferred, with familiarity in laboratory procedures and techniques.
- Proficient in specimen collection and processing, including phlebotomy skills.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in maintaining accurate laboratory records.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with healthcare professionals. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about contributing to medical science through meticulous laboratory work. The Histology Technician will play an integral role in supporting patient diagnosis and treatment through high-quality histological services.
Histotechnician will be cross trained to work in both surgical Mohs lab and permanent histology lab. Previous experience not required but helpful and preferred.
