Responsible for the development of Automotive trim coatings and decorative finish technologies for Company vehicle applications. OEM Automotive Coatings Materials Engineer blends deep materials science expertise with a focus on coating chemistry and automotive coatings process engineering. This role is responsible for developing, validating, and optimizing coating materials and associated processes used within OEM automotive manufacturing environments.
The Automotive Coatings Materials Engineer works closely with Engineering, Product Development, CMF, Quality, and Problem-Solving teams to ensure that all coating materials meet stringent performance, appearance, and durability requirements. The selected individual will also be responsible for developing and maintaining robust material performance for each commodity and supporting continuous improvement activities throughout all phases of a vehicle program—up to and through launch.
Key Responsibilities:
- Specialization in functional coatings to meet global design and performance objectives; creation of specifications with design and performance targets, application recommendations, and root cause analysis of non-conformances.
- Working closely with the paint /coating suppliers, decorative finishes supplier in developing the new technology and developing colors within the approved coating technologies
- Create or modify each commodity/ material standard specifications
- Participate in new model launches, color development, and engineering changes requiring material validation.
- Provide technical direction for coatings/ decorative finishes. Initiate sustainable initiatives, Innovative material developments
