Role Description
The Director of Facilities is a full-time, on-site role based in Rome, GA, responsible for leading and overseeing the operation, maintenance, and improvement of facilities across Georgia Highlands College’s campuses. This role manages day-to-day building operations, including custodial, mechanical, electrical, and grounds services, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant learning and working environments. The Director develops and implements preventive maintenance programs, coordinates repairs and capital projects, and collaborates with campus leadership on space planning and long-term facilities strategies. The position is accountable for facilities budgeting, vendor and contractor management, and adherence to regulatory and safety standards. The Director also supervises facilities staff, sets performance expectations, promotes professional development, and fosters a culture of service, sustainability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Strong facilities operations and Facility Management (FM) skills, including oversight of building systems, grounds, custodial services, and regulatory compliance.
- Demonstrated supervisory skills, with experience leading diverse facilities teams, managing performance, and coordinating work assignments.
- Experience with budgeting and resource planning, including forecasting, cost control, and managing contracts and vendors.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices for mechanical, electrical, and structural systems to ensure reliability and safety.
- Bachelor’s degree in facilities management, engineering, construction management, business administration, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Familiarity with higher education or multi-site institutional environments and applicable building, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Proficiency with CMMS or other facilities management software and basic office productivity tools.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities, with capacity to prioritize multiple projects and respond to emergencies.
