What are the responsibilities and job description for the Government Relations Representative position at Georgia EMC?

Georgia Electric Membership Corporation (Georgia EMC) is seeking an enthusiastic leader to serve as Government Relations Representative. Our team is looking for a proactive and accountable self-starter to effectively represent Georgia EMC member interests on issues pending before state and federal legislative and regulatory bodies. We are looking for a candidate who is conscientious, enjoys collaborating with others and shares our enthusiasm in promoting Georgia’s EMCs.

 

As a vital member of the team and our organization, your role would include:

  • Assisting Senior Vice President and Vice President of Government Relations with lobbying duties at both the state and federal level.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with elected/appointed officials and staff, principally with the Georgia General Assembly, various state regulatory departments, and the Georgia delegation in the U.S. Congress.
  • Monitoring state and federal legislation and regulations affecting the electric industry.
  • Developing and implementing strategies for achieving statewide or individual EMC goals.
  • Communicating issues of importance internally to Georgia EMC members through newsletter articles, correspondence, presentations, etc.
  • Managing Georgia EMC grassroots programs, grassroots website, and other advocacy programs.
  • Monitoring industry and political news as it relates to the position.
  • Identifying, developing and maintaining industry-related relationships in the public affairs community.
  • Responding to Georgia EMC member inquiries, external inquiries and/or consumer inquiries or complaints.
  • Coordinating and participating in Georgia EMC PAC activities.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by management and peers. 


The ideal candidate:

  • Should be a self-starter and excellent time manager with the ability to prioritize and schedule a wide variety of events concurrently, often with conflicting deadlines;
  • Should be a skilled communicator who is comfortable speaking to groups and presents well in person, over the phone and through email;
  • Should possess an attitude of exceptional customer service;
  • Should enjoy and have a proven ability to work cooperatively with others;
  • Excellent organizational, coordinating, listening and verbal and written communication skills; and,
  • Should have advanced leadership skills and the ability to work with individuals in various levels of both domestic and international corporations including individuals at the CEO and Board Chairman levels.

 

Education and/or Experience:                                                                 

Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university experience is required.  Candidate should have knowledge of the legislative process at both the state and federal level and be familiar with state lobbying compliance procedures.  Excellent writing and editing skills are required.
