The Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH) is one of Georgia's four health agencies serving the state's growing population of over 10 million people. DCH serves as the lead agency for Medicaid, oversees the State Health Benefit Plan (SHBP) and Healthcare Facility Regulation, impacting one in four Georgians.

DCH employees are based in Atlanta, Cordele and across the state.

DCH is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Deputy Director with the Healthcare Facility Regulation Division (HFRD). This role oversees a diverse range of support, operational, and programmatic activities for a department, agency, or facility. This position recommends and implements policies and procedures. It also provides leadership to subordinate managers and staff. This is a hybrid position that requires in-office and remote work with the approval of the supervisor. The days and frequency in the office can change at any time during employment based on the business needs of the organization.

The Deputy Director will be a direct line supervisor of senior-level staff and will assist the Executive Director with the oversight of all program types (approximately 21,000 federal facilities/providers and 9,000 state licensure facilities/providers). This role will take the lead responsibility over state licensing/state programs and will direct programs under HFRD's Healthcare Facility Licensing and will assist the Executive Director with the evaluation, implementation and directions of programs as needed. Under limited supervision, this position provides management and oversight to state licensure programs and managers. This position also develops and reviews all aspect of programs’ regulation, oversight, and enforcement of all healthcare facilities and providers throughout the state. The Deputy Director also reviews agreements, memoranda of understanding, interagency agreements, and other documents, and represents the Division on behalf of the Department of Community Health (DCH) with outside stakeholders. Duties also include but are not limited to:

  • Establishing program plans, budget and staffing requirements; ensures programs are completed and meet federal/state objectives.
  • Acts as a supervisor and manager for employees and contracts assigned to the HFR office of Healthcare Facility Licensing.
  • Direct regulatory strategies for business units.
  • Represents the program at workshops, conferences, association meetings and other activities.
  • Provide regulatory guidance to HFR staff.
  • Participates in the planning, coordination, development and implementation of long-range goals and objectives.
  • May also travel throughout the state as needed.
Bachelor's degree in operations management, business administration, or a related field which includes six (6) years in a managerial or supervisory role; or ten (10) years of related professional experience which includes six (6) years in a managerial or supervisory role; or six (6) years of experience required at the lower-level Sr Mgr 2, Business Ops (GSM013) or position equivalent. Note: An equivalent combination of knowledge, education, job or intern experience, training, or certifications that provides the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted year-over-year.

Note: Possession of a valid driver's license, which would enable the applicant to drive in Georgia, and use of a car at work, are required for employees in this job.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to candidates, who in addition to meeting the qualifications listed above, possess the following:     

  • 3-5 years’ experience administering and monitoring the compliance of healthcare programs
  • Advanced degree in health related, healthcare administration or business related field
  • Significant experience developing and implementing program policy
  • Experience as licensed healthcare professional
