Student Assistant - Operations and Maintenance

This student assistant position will be working directly with trades-person assisting with tasks such as Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, HVAC and other such duties required to keep campus facilities maintained.

Maintenance/Repairs - 75%
Assist shop trades-person with work order requests on campus. May at times be asked to work independently with intermittent task oversight by trades-person or supervisor.

Inventory - 20%
Organize, clean, and maintain shop areas, equipment rooms, and service vehicles.

Other - 5%
Any other duties and tasks assigned or as required to meet the goals of the department, division, and Georgia College & State University.

Other Required Qualifications
Valid driver's license.

Required Experience
Current enrollment as a student at the institution; at least half-time status, which is 6 credit hours.

Ability to work a flexible schedule around class commitments.

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Certified forklift operator, ASE automotive repair certification.

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Trade or vocational school courses. CTAE Career Pathways courses.

Preferred Experience
Experience working with hand and power tools performing repairs and maintenance on buildings, vehicles, or other equipment.

Minimum $10.00/ hour to Maximum $12.50/ hour.

ABILITIES
A person working in this classification will need to be able to grasp, lift, carry, and set down heavy objects (50-75lb) objects. Need to be able to climb and work from ladders, lifts, and scaffolding.

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of the occupational hazards of tools and equipment associated with maintenance activities, mechanical and electrical building equipment.

SKILLS
Able to complete work requests, fill out work order forms, and have a good working relationship with others.
