Pastor Job Description
The Senior Pastor is responsible for providing spiritual leadership, biblical teaching, and pastoral care to the members of Calvary Baptist Church. He will guide the church according to the teachings of the Bible and the doctrines of the Southern Baptist Convention. The pastor will lead in preaching, teaching, pastoral care, leadership development, evangelism, and missions. The Pastor will serve as an ex-officio member of all committees of the church.

The pastor will lead in preaching, teaching, pastoral care, leadership development, evangelism, and missions. The Pastor will serve as an ex-officio member of all committees of the church.
Essential Responsibilities
- Preaching & Teaching
- Prepare and deliver biblically sound sermons that align with the Baptist Faith and Message 2000
- Lead Sunday morning worship service and other scheduled services (Bible study, etc., as applicable)
- Oversee or delegate the teaching of Bible studies and discipleship classes
- Pastoral Care
- Provide spiritual counseling, visitation, and care to church members (including hospitals, nursing homes, and shut-ins)
- Officiate weddings, funerals, baptisms, and Communion.
- Maintain confidentiality and compassion in personal interactions
- Leadership & Administration
- Provide vision and spiritual direction for the church in coordination with the church leadership
- Work alongside the Deacons, ministry teams, and staff to implement the church’s mission and ministry goals
- Oversee church staff, support volunteers, and encourage ministry development
- Evangelism & Missions
- Lead the congregation in outreach and evangelism efforts
- Encourage mission involvement locally, nationally and internationally in partnership with the SBC, GBMB, and WMBA and affiliated ministries
- Support cooperative giving through the Cooperative Program and other Southern Baptist initiatives
- A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a call to pastoral ministry
- Demonstrates biblical qualifications of elder/overseer as listed in 1Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9
- Commitment to integrity and holiness in personal life
- Ordained (preferably as a Southern Baptist minister)
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a Bible college or Master of Divinity from an accredited seminary
- Proven pastoral experience (3-5 years preferred)
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills
- A commitment to prayer, discipleship, and the Great Commission
- Strong biblical literacy and theological soundness
- Shepherding heart with a servant-leader mindset
- Able to lead a multi-generational congregation
- Administrative ability to manage church affairs and staff
- Possess strong interpersonal and a heart for restorative practice
- Effective in preaching and public communication
