The
O'Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law
was established in 2007 through the generous philanthropy of Linda and Timothy O’Neill to respond to the need for innovative solutions to the most pressing global health concerns. In bringing together experts from both the public health and legal fields, the O’Neill Institute reflects the importance of public and private law in health policy analysis.
Job Overview
The Project Associate works on projects and/or academic research projects and explores new policy areas. Duties include preparation of white papers, organization of research colloquia, expert meetings, coordination of interdisciplinary research team, and grant writing.
Academic projects involve working closely with faculty to produce scholarly works for publication. In some cases, this work results in joint publication. Generally:
  • Works with the Institute’s Director, faculty members, and staff to conduct short-term advanced research projects, including legal and policy research on relevant national and global health law - e.g. public health law, international health regulations, health and human rights. Duties include some supervision of Research Assistants (RAs) and student research on relevant topics; and projects involve legal and policy writing and presentations, as well as participation in related conferences and events.
  • Supports O’Neill Institute/ Global Health Law LL.M. courses to expand opportunities for experiential learning; cultivates and helps manage relationships with external clients to help define and support student papers and evaluate work; and supports course development and execution.
Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Legal and policy writing and research
  • Event attendance, fundraising support and networking
  • Academic support
  • Institute support and travel
Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation
Reporting to the report to the Co-Directors of Health Policy and the Law, the Project Associate communicates externally with partners and funders as necessary for assigned projects – and internally with other institutes, clinics and professors as needed to obtain information relevant to research projects

Requirements and Qualifications
  • JD or JD/MPH
  • At least 3 years of health law and/or health policy experience - with some supervisory experience
  • Familiarity with both domestic and international health law topics
  • Academic and working knowledge of research topics related to health law
  • Excellent research and legal writing skills
  • Ability to operate professionally and maturely in interactions with academic and other stakeholders
  • Ability to work well as part of a small team
  • Ability to supervise student work in a professional manner

Exceptional academic credentials, including publications
Pay Range:
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$54,616.00 - $100,493.33
Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
